Female Emmy Nominees Yack About Yap Island

For a whole bunch of rather obvious reasons, awards show broadcasts can never hope to be as entertaining as properly conducted pre-awards show roundtable discussions. So do yourself a favor and bookmark The Hollywood Reporter’s latest such Q&A with Julie Bowen, Jane Lynch, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Martha Plimpton, Christina Applegate, Laura Dern and Zooey Deschanel.

The whole thing is pretty uproarious, complete with embedded video clips. Towards the very end, the group segues – thanks to a question about possible alternate careers – to the Micronesian island nation of Yap:

Plimpton: I would move to that island – I think it’s called Yap – where the only form of currency is a giant round stone that gets moved from house to house. You want a cow? You give the giant round stone to the guy with a cow…

THR: I’m sorry. This is a real place?

Plimpton: Yes, it’s a real place. I would totally find that island and live there.

The First Anchorman 2 Teaser Trailer is Out

Less than two months after Will Ferrell announced that Anchorman 2 was a go, a teaser trailer for the 2013 sequel is ready to go and airing in theaters before The Dictator.

Collider has the details from a source that saw an early screening of the new Sacha Baron Cohen comedy:

“Just got out of a screening of The Dictator. There is an Anchorman 2 teaser attached featuring the Channel 4 news team (minus Veronica) stating how excited they are to return… a concept that Brick seems to have a hard time with. Also, not sure if it was an official title or more of a slogan but the screen title read Anchorman: The Legend Continues followed by ’2013′”

Actress Christina Applegate is still on the bubble for the project. When the teaser eventually leaks, we will pass it along so you can save your $12 and not sit through 83 minutes of The Dictator.

Drew Barrymore, Girl Reporter

barrymore.jpgThe movies love the media industry. Just this year, we had Russell Crowe and Rachel McAdams playing investigative reporters in “State of Play,” Isla Fisher pratfalling in the office of a business mag for “Confessions of a Shopaholic” and Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds finding love at a publishing house in “The Proposal.”

Now, Drew Barrymore is returning to another role in journalism (remember she played a reporter in “Never Been Kissed”?) and she’s taking over the Associated Press‘ New York headquarters to do it.

This week, Barrymore is shooting scenes at the AP’s offices for her upcoming film “Going the Distance,” in which she plays an “older-than-usual newspaper intern” at the fictional New York Sentinel, the AP reported. The filming will also take place in the offices for The New York Daily News which is in the same building as the AP at 450 West 33rd St. The Daily News will serve as a rival paper.

The movie also features Barrymore flame Justin Long, Jason Sudeikis of “SNL” and Christina Applegate.

If you work for the AP or Daily News (or any other company in the building) and have any good stories about the stars’ taking over your stomping grounds, send us an email or leave a note in the comments.

38813170-13135800.jpgMake Shows Good: There. We just saved Disney millions of dollars. Of course, if the company still wants to blow wads of cash on the obvious, it should just go ahead and continue to develop its “emerging media and advertising research lab” to find out what makes viewers tune into different shows. But in the end, they’ll find we are right.
