CNNMoney Adds Personal Finance Reporter

Melanie Hicken is joining CNNMoney’s personal finance team. Hicken comes to CNNMoney from Reuters, where she served as a computer-assisted reporting intern. Previously she worked at ProPublica and Business Insider.

Hicken begins at CNNMoney on December 17.

CNNMoney Adds Tech Reporter

CNNMoney has added Adrian Covert as a tech reporter. Covert comes to the site from Gizmodo, and at CNNMoney he will continue to cover much of the same area.

“Adrian will be on the gadget beat, focusing on news and reviews about the steady stream of devices churned out by Apple and all of its rivals,” said Lex Haris, CNNMoney’s managing editor, in a note to staff.

Covert begins December 3.

Mark Thompson Joins CNNMoney

Mark Thompson has joined CNNMoney as assistant managing editor. Thompson previously worked at Reuters in a variety of roles. At CNNMoney, Thompson is overseeing the site’s international content.

According to a memo from Lex Haris, CNNMoney’s managing editor, Thompson will be hiring two reporters in London, and an editor and reporter in Hong Kong.

CNNMoney Launches Redesign

CNNMoney has revamped its site, and as you can see, the look is much cleaner than it was in the past. The latest news is featured prominently on the landing page, and there’s a lot less clutter.

Aside from cosmetic changes, the site features more video, expanded markets coverage, increased social networking sharing tools and the ability to sign up for stock and breaking news alerts.

The website also marks the beginning of two new partnerships: StockTwits and SigFig. StockTwits is a social network based on investing news, and SigFig is a tool that helps people figure out the best ways to invest their money.

CNNMoney Expands Online Video Presence With Eight New Shows

Everybody wants to be a video star these days! And by everybody we mean websites fighting to remain relevant online. Earlier this week Reuters announced it was launching a new video-on-demand service, and this morning on the Menu ABC’s Rick Klein spoke of the network’s push to offer more original online video.

Now CNNMoney “the most-popular source of business-news video on the Web” has revealed they are partnering with Time Inc.’s business magazines and sister cable network CNN and have unveiled eight new online business shows. According to the WSJ CNNMoney devotes about a quarter of its editorial budget to Web video, which “has helped it grab the online-video mantle from Yahoo Inc., AOL and other Internet hubs that long dominated business news online.” Take a look at the line-up after the jump.
