Dane Cook Apologizes for Colorado Massacre Joke

Comedian Dane Cook apologized via Twitter Friday for his insensitive joke on Thursday night at the Laugh Factory about the Colorado massacre:

I am devastated by the recent tragedy in Colorado & did not mean to make light of what happened. I made a bad judgment call with my material last night & regret making a joke at such a sensitive time. My heart goes out to all of the families & friends of the victims.

In case you missed it, this was his “joke”:

“So I heard that the guy came into the theater about 25 minutes into the movie … And I don’t know if you’ve seen the movie, but the movie is pretty much a piece of crap … yeah, spoiler alert.”

Cook continued … “I know that if none of that would have happened, pretty sure that somebody in that theater, about 25 minutes in, realizing it was a piece of crap, was probably like ‘ugh f*cking shoot me.’”

How about an apology for your entire career while you’re at it, Dane?

Dane Cook Jokes About Colorado Massacre

Less than a week after the Colorado massacre, comedian Dane Cook took to the Laugh Factor on Thursday night and cracked a joke about the shootings that left 12 people dead:

“So I heard that the guy came into the theater about 25 minutes into the movie … And I don’t know if you’ve seen the movie, but the movie is pretty much a piece of crap … yeah, spoiler alert.”

Cook continued … “I know that if none of that would have happened, pretty sure that somebody in that theater, about 25 minutes in, realizing it was a piece of crap, was probably like ‘ugh f*cking shoot me.’”

Too soon, Dane. Too soon.

Tragedy + Time = Comedy.

It also doesn’t help that nobody finds you funny in the first place.

KCRW to Air Marc Maron’s WTF

No idea how they’re going to pull this off, but KCRW has decided to air 10 episodes of Marc Maron‘s wonderful podcast WTF–which, if for some reason you can’t figure it out, stands for “What the Fuck.” And therein, seemingly, lies the trouble. Maron begins each and every show by saying fuck no less than 12 times, and isn’t shy about using it during his interviews either. Why should he be shy? It’s his podcast.

But the FCC might have something to say about the matter if anything close to an unedited podcast goes over the airwaves. Especially on Sundays at 11AM, which is when KCRW plans to run the program.

The shows KCRW chose to air are all old, so they’ll have plenty of time to scrub them clean. It will be interesting to see what’s left.

Dane Cook’s Half Brother Guilty of Embezzlement…From Dane Cook

Comedian and comedian’s punchline Dane Cook is the subject of a bitter sweet story from KTLA:

Dane Cook’s half brother and sister-and-law have been ordered to pay the comic $12 million in restitution, after they pleaded guilty to stealing money from him.

Darryl and Erika McCauley are accused of embezzling millions from Cook while Darryl McCauley was working as his business manager.

Darryl McCauley was convicted of charges including 27 counts of larceny and sentenced to 5 to 6 years in prison. His wife was found guilty of two counts of larceny and sentenced to 2 1/2 to 3 years in prison.

Sweet: his brother was convicted of the wrongdoing. Bitter: Cook had $12 million to steal?!

The upshot is the comic is in the news again. So that’s good, huh?

Resident Evil Reigns Supreme
Milla Jovovich and her Resident Evil franchise again took the top spot at the boxoffice over the weekend. The Sony horror pic Resident Evil: Extinction raked in an estimated $24 million while the Jessica Alba, Dane Cook romantic comedy Good Luck Chuck was only good enough for a second place finish with $14 million, reports Variety.

Washington, Scott Together Again
Variety is also reporting that Denzel Washington will reteam with longtime collaborator Tony Scott on a remake of The Taking of Pelham 1, 2, 3 for Columbia Pictures. The studio’s Spider-Man 4 scribe David Koepp wrote the screenplay for the redo which will find Washington in a role originally played by Walter Matthau in the 1974 film.

Comedian Dave Chappelle walked onstage unannounced at 10:43PM Sunday at West Hollywood’s Laugh Factory — where the infamous Michael Richards‘ n-word infused rant took place last fall — for an impromptu standup set.

It ended at 4:43AM Monday.

He took no breaks, and according to founder Jamie Masada, only about a dozen of the 150 people in the audience left.

Accordng to Variety, Chappelle covered “a multitude of topics during his megaset, tackling everything from President Bush‘s intelligence to Comedy Central’s decision to hype Carlos Mencia after Chappelle abandoned his show for the cabler.”

Chappelle’s record-setting set bested Dane Cook‘s April 10 set at the club, which lasted nearly four hours. (Cook was paying tribute to his father, who passed away the week before.) The previous record was a two-hour, 40 minute set by Richard Pryor in 1980.
