Politico Reporter Apologizes for Todd Akin Tweets

Dave Catanese, the Politico reporter who tweeted about how maybe we were all wrong about Todd Akin, has seen the light. The Huffington Post reports that Catanese sent an apology out to Politico staffers. Below, an excerpt:

I would never intentionally impugn a woman who has been the victim of the horrific crime of rape. My commentary on Rep. Akin’s repugnant rhetoric failed to make this clear.

I am deeply sorry and apologize for the distress and distraction I have caused in the newsroom and promise to learn from this experience to better express my journalistic intent with greater precision and sensitivity.

Politico Removes Idiot Reporter from Covering Idiot Todd Akin

Last night, Politico’s Dave Catanese took to Twitter to defend Todd Akin’s indefensible “legitimate rape” comments, and for that, he has been removed from covering the story. The New York Times reports that a memo from Politico’s top editors explained the situation:

David Catanese crossed a line a reporter shouldn’t cross on Twitter when he seemed to weigh in on the merits of Todd Akin’s comments — especially in a way many people, including many Politico colleagues, understandably found offensive.
