Hearst Adds Editorial Recruiter, Redbook Expands Team

hearst-magazine-logo-1Hearst Magazines has named Maura Fritz editorial recruiter and Redbook has added two staffers. Details are below.

  • Fritz joins Hearst Magazines from Real Simple, where she served as senior editor and — most recently — deputy editor of RealSimple.com. She previously served as editorial manager of Life, and managing editor at Us Weekly and Men’s Journal.
  • Redbook has named Jennifer Hitzges fashion director. Hitzges was previously a stylist for celebrities such as Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, Jessica Biel, Penelope Cruz, Kerry Washington and more. She has previously contributed to magazines such as Vanity Fair, InStyle, Teen Vogue and Glamour. 
  • Petra Kobayashi joins Redbook as art director. She most recently served as Self’s art director; a role she held for the past 10 years.

Revolving Door: Hearst Magazines Names VPs, Atlantic Adds to Event Team

Some revolving door news today: Hearst Magazines has appointed two new vice presidents, and The Atlantic has added to its AtlanticLive team. Details are below.

  • Hearst has named Eliot Kaplan and Ellen Payne vice presidents of Hearst Magazines. Kaplan has been with Hearst since 1999, most recently serving as executive director of talent acquisition. Payne has been with Hearst since 1997, most recently serving as director of editorial operations.
  • Lauren Evans is joining The Atlantic’s AtlanticLIVE event team as associate director of business development. Evans comes to the Atlantic from

    The Wall Street Journal, where she had been for the past six years.

Hearst Magazines Adds Editorial Recruiter

Lynne Palazzi has joined Hearst Magazines as an Editorial Recruiter. Prior to Hearst she contributed to a variety of titles, including Country Living, Life.com and The Huffington Post. She has also been an editor at Budget Living, Us Weekly, and Time Out New York.

At Hearst Palazzi will report to Eliot Kaplan, the Executive Director of Talent Acquisition. She will focus on recruiting entry and mid-level editorial positions.

“Lynne has a great instinct and strong contacts in the industry,” said Kaplan. “Her 20 years of experience as a writer and editor at many top-quality publications makes her a perfect fit for this position and we are happy to have her on board.”

Palazzi begins her new post on January 23.

Eliot Kaplan Promoted at Hearst Magazines

Eliot Kaplan has been named Executive Director, Talent Acquisition, at Hearst Magazines. Kaplan most recently worked as Editorial Talent Director for Hearst, a position he held since 1999.

Kaplan has had quite the career in magazines, including his time at Hearst. He elevated GQ into a well-respected brand serving under its Editor-in-Chief Art Cooper. Then, for seven years he was Editor-in-Chief at Philadelphia Magazine, and during that time the title was nominated five times for National Magazine Awards and won twice.

FishbowlNY wishes Kaplan the best at his new position, even though we hear he’s a big Phillies fan.

Amy Poehler, Rachael Ray And MTV’s McGrath Headline Gracie Awards

gracies.jpgLast night in New York City, the Foundation of American Women in Radio & Television presented their 34th annual Gracie Awards honoring the top women making entertainment for women.

The night’s biggest winners were Amy Poehler, who took home the 2009 Dove Real Beauty Award, Tribute Award winner Rachael Ray and MTV Networks CEO Judy McGrath, who was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. And the red carpet was graced by more media celebrities who won or presented awards throughout the evening, including Suze Orman, Anderson Cooper, Katie Couric, Ann Curry, Bob Schieffer, New York Housewives Jill Zarin, Kelly Bensimon, LuAnn de Lesseps and Alex McCord, Oprah‘s BFF Gayle King and Maya Angelou.
