Today on the menu we are joined by New York Observer media reporter Felix Gillette.

Gillette had this to say about Obama’s lack of love for newspapers at last night’s presser: “Will that create some anxiety, further anxiety, for big newspaper reporters about their status in the world? Yes.” However, “a lot of times some of the coverage of who gets question at these press conferences is a little bit self-serious.”

Our two favorite stories to come out of last night’s party-going both involve New York Observer reporters. The first from Gwen Iffill‘s book party hosted by Atlantic publisher David Bradley at his home on Embassy Row. Rumor has it when a certain NYO media reporter asked guest Maureen Dowd (looking svelte in black lace) whether or not she had a minute for the paper she answered “No.” Did she have 50 seconds? Still no. Forty-five? Nope. And so on. In a last ditch effort said reporter wanted to know whether MoDo had time for one question. Not so much.

Meanwhile, NYO‘s Felix Gillette, who was declined an invite for the HuffPo wrist-banded cluster scene last night at the Newseum, managed to sweep in as part of the Jonas Brothers entourage. For her part (also uninvited) Julia Allison told she’d managed slip through the security by storming the red carpet.

What Surprised Michael Wolff Most About Rupert Murdoch May Also Surprise You!

The party for Michael Wolff‘s much ballyhooed official Rupert Murdoch biography The Man Who Owns the News was held last night at the stunning penthouse of Milk Studios on the West Side and, not surprisingly, attracted a whole slew of media big wigs (every style of horn-rimmed glasses appeared to be present — said one party-goer on knowing the room was packed with famous names but not recognizing the faces: “I wish there was an iPhone app for that.”). Sadly Rupe himself was noticeably absent. Turns out the last-minute party date switcheroo from Monday night to Tuesday was just…a mistake, and not actually a scheduling conflict with Wendi Murdoch’s 40th birthday party.

We eventually caught up with Wolff — the man knows how to work a room! — and asked him what, in the course of writing the book, had most surprised him about Rupert Murdoch?

That he takes an enema before a long-haul flight.

O’Reilly Thinks Nick Denton Should Go to Jail, and Other Stories of New York Media Doing the MSM’s Job For Them

No one is safe! Threat Level, the new go-to for all hacker stories, is reporting that a hacker has claimed to have infiltrated Bill O’Reilly‘s website and “purloined a list of subscribers to the site, which includes their names, e-mail addresses, city and state, and the password they use for their registration to the site.” This is apparently in retaliation for O’Reilly’s comments about the “despicable, slimy, scummy” website that posted (or, say, “repackaged“) the Sarah Palin emails — we are assuming he is referring to Gawker. During the same segment O’Reilly asks Townhall’s Amanda Carpenter why the Feds can’t just go to the guy’s house who runs it (or say to his big roof party the other night) and “put him in cuffs and take him down and book him?” Because if the government can’t protect the world, or a governor using a private email address to conduct government business, from Nick Denton‘s Gawker we ought to just “pack it up.” Of course right this second the Feds may be too interested reliving the Great Depression to fast forward into a 2.0 version of McCarthy, but stay tuned!

Denton isn’t the only New York media type making the rounds of the worst person in the cable news world.
