Fred Thompson is Doing Maher and Colbert Jokes on His Twitter Account

070402_fredthompson.jpgFred Thompson, the William Hung of the 2008 election season, is an actor who was a senator. He already has the looks of Strom Thurmond and the wit of Sarah Palin. And now he has the joke ethics of Carlos Mencia (or Robin Williams take your pick).

On Real Time’s season finale last week Bill Maher said, “The only silver lining I can find is that British accents aren’t sexy anymore.”

Fred’s tweet, “Getting BP’s CEO to testify at a Congressional hearing DID accomplish one thing: British accents are no longer sexy #ftrs #tcot”

Then a couple minutes later, another lift. Fred tweets, “The only way Obama’s speech could have been any worse is if there were people in the background blowing into vuvuzelas. #ftrs #tcot

And of course, Stephen Colbert did a bit last night with vuvuzeles over the President’s speech.

You know what? Fred Thompson isn’t funny. We follow him on Twitter, we should know. He’s the dullest person you’ve ever heard of. So “parallel thinking” is highly unlikely. You know what’s even less funny than not being funny? Plagiarizing. Stealing. Ripping off other’s material without attribution.

Oh and he also tweeted he’ll be on the Daily Show tonight. We bet he has some gems lined up.

Right-Wing Radio Promises More White Noise

old_radio.jpgBrian Stelter, current NYT reporter, former TVNewser editor, has a piece about conservative radio’s excitement at having a target back in the White House.

Which means Rush Limbaugh will continue his denouncement of the ‘mainstream media’ like he’s on a shortwave instead of being nationally broadcast to 3.58 million listeners.

Anyway, Stelter reports that GOP presidential also-rans are looking to cash in on radio stardom. Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, and the Ambien-esque Fred Thompson.

Stelter writes:

However, next year promises to be a unique one, with grim forecasts about the economy and renewed interest in the presidency. Advertisers and syndicators are expecting a busy year because of the incoming administration. “I think people are going to tune in more than ever,” Maja Mijatovic said.

For the record, our radio is with our VHS player…at our local e-waste center.

Better Late Than Never: Scenes From the RNC’s Google/VF Party

100_3228.jpgAlready the conventions are speeding away into the past as we hurtle toward this election and learn to speak Palin (we’re still trying to sort out how objective media translates into deferential).

However! The RNC only happens every four years (it’s going to take us at least that long to recover from last Wednesday night’s speech), and how often does one get to attend a party with Henry Kissinger, Charlie Rose, Meghan McCain, and Fred Thompson?

Forget The Debates, Voters Need Only Watch “Law & Order”

fredthompson_lawandorder_270.jpg

Someone at Zap2It has been hitting the NoDoze and Diet Coke. Spurred on by the presidential bid of Law & Order actor Fred Thompson, the entertainment Web site created an intricate 6-degrees-type graphic linking the rest of the presidential candidates to the show.

Our favorite links Sam Brownback via George Clooney — a connection we’re sure the actor would be very proud of.

Wald Leaves KTLA/Sullivan Out at Weekly/Thompson Pulled from L & W

Lots of media movement:

ktla-c.jpg

Jeff Wald, news director of KTLA for the last 15 years, is leaving to take care of his family. Wald’s wife died last winter. No replacement has been named.

Kate Sullivan, music writer at LA Weekly, has been replaced by Randall Roberts, a ex-New Times guy from St. Louis. Tabloid Baby hopes she’ll invite everyone to read her private blog.

NBC plans to pull those Law & Order episodes with Fred Thompson, as he comes close to announcing his bid for the Republican presidential nomination To avoid running afoul of the government’s equal time provisions for candidates, the network won’t schedule a L&O repeat with Thompson after Sept. 1 if he’s officially a candidate by that time. Cable doesn’t have to play by the same rules, which is lucky, as he’s in 115 episodes.

And Maya Rudolph out at SNL?

Joe Scarborough’s Imus Moment

Today’s foot-in-mouth award goes to MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough.

On the June 1st episode of his Morning Joe telecast, Scarborough implied that Fred Thompson‘s wife is a stripper. While speaking with Congressional Quarterly‘s Craig Crawford about the Law & Order star-turned-politician, the two had the following exchange:

Scarborough: Have you seen Fred Thompson’s wife?

Crawford: Oh, yeah.

Scarborough: You think she thinks she works the pole?

CBS is referring to the incident as the talk show host’s “Imus moment.” However, 2007 being 2007, Imus moments easily make it onto YouTube.

Let’s watch!

slimepig.jpgUnclear on the Concept: Girls Gone Wild slimepig Joe Francis is sentenced to jail. But even when he’s getting locked up, he can’t help but pimp his brand: “This judge has gone as far as to call me the devil and an evildoer,” he said. “It is a case of a judge gone wild.” In response, the judge flashed Francis his manboobs.

28841257.jpgAn Actor For President? Seems like every Republican running for office tries to remake himself in Regan’s image. So, it’s only fitting that actor/U.S. Senator Fred Thompson is thinking about running.
