A good example is this week’s mini-essay by Caroline Cushing Graham about what it was like, for five years in the 1970s, to be the girlfriend of David Frost. The late TV interviewer certainly had the benefit of access; still, it takes special flair to make use of these romantic opportunities the way Frost did:

Our first real date was an invitation to fly to Kinshasa, Zaire on my birthday, October 30, to the Muhammad Ali, George Foreman “Rumble in the Jungle” fight. For the eight extraordinary rounds of the most famous boxing match in history I took photographs at ringside and David was the TV host of the evening. It was a glamorous start to our five-year whirlwind affair.
