Sports Journo Questions His Car Mechanic’s Media Etiquette

After a casual Tuesday conversation at a 76 gas station in Sherman Oaks turned into a hoops-nation.com report that Gilbert Arenas is hoping to join either the Lakers or Clippers, sports journalist Larry Brown ponders the media daisy chain. Partly because the source of the story is his car mechanic.

Brown grew up just a few blocks from this particular 76 station on Ventura Boulevard. He’s not surprised about the way the story was sparked, but still wonders if it was the right thing to do:

Someone like Arenas knows that everyone they come in contact with may have a Twitter or Facebook account, or have a connection to a blog, and that any type of information can spread quickly. If he doesn’t want something out there, he shouldn’t say it.

Millionaire Lends Out His Staples Center Replica

Over the Grammy weekend, Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak decided to take a close-up look at free agent Gilbert Arenas. In no small part because Kobe Bryant has let it be known that he would welcome the addition of the former high-flying Wizard (pictured).

But since the Staples Center hardwood was overrun this weekend with music industry stars and the team’s El Segundo practice facility perhaps not quite a match for game-like conditions, Kupchak called on one of Bel Air’s well-heeled season ticket holders. Per Dave McMenamin‘s report on espn.com:

Arenas’ workout was held at the Bel Air home of Lakers season ticket holder and L.A. Gear sneaker mogul Steven Jackson. Jackson’s house includes a private basketball court, painted as a replica of the Lakers’ home floor at Staples Center. The Miami Heat practiced at Jackson’s home last month prior to playing the Los Angeles Clippers.

Basketball Wives LA Schedule Now Includes Two August Court Dates

Even though the upcoming VH1 series Basketball Wives LA encompasses Kimsha Artest, the significant other of “Metta World Peace,” the final weeks leading up to the scheduled August 29 debut on VH1 have been anything but in keeping with Ron-ron’s new handle.

According to the always eagle-eyed Eriq Gardner of THR Esq., there are not one but two court dates set for later this month. On August 22, Orlando Magic star Gilbert Arenas will try to get an injunction to prevent the show from airing, while a week later, on the series debut date, attorneys for production company The Shed Media Group will be ready to fire back. Per Gardner:

Here’s the key [Media Shed response] passage:

“In a showing of unparalleled hubris, Plaintiff claims that he is so famous and important that simply mentioning the words ‘basketball wives’ in the same sentence as [his former fiancée Laura] Govan’s name -impermissibly impinges on his rights… Plaintiff is wrong.”
