Alan Citron Moves Over to Yahoo

LinkedIn remains a very handy tool. Per a FishbowlLA tipster, it does indeed appear that Alan Citron is newly installed as a business lead with Yahoo Entertainment.

Citron, one of the genuinely nicest guys in town, has had a long, illustrious career, one many journalists today would pine for. After working for more than a decade as a reporter and editor at the LA Times, he segued to Ticketmaster Online and MusicNet.

Most recently with BuzzMedia (a.k.a. SpinMedia), Citron was instrumental as founding GM in helping the late Jim Paratore and Harvey Levin build out TMZ. His fellow TMZ-er at Buzz-Spin, Gillian Sheldon Heckendorf, previously left for Berman Braun.

Media Exec’s New Commute Providing Bounty of LA Snapshots

When Gillian Sheldon was vp of programming for BUZZMEDIA, she commuted daily from the Valley to that company’s offices in Hollywood just west of Sunset and Vine. Having recently segued to Berman Braun in Santa Monica, where she oversees online marketing, there is more freeway driving involved, via the 134/101 and 405.

Following this morning’s commute, Sheldon – a very funny and active user of social media – shared the following summary. The last one is the kicker:

BIG Changes at CELEBUZZ

This afternoon, via Facebook, CELEBUZZ executive editor Joseph Kapsch announced he was leaving his New York post. Just a few months after exiting The Hollywood Reporter and relocating cross-country.

“A decision like this is never easy to make,” CELEBUZZ editor-in-chief Dylan Howard tells FishbowlLA. “I wish Joseph the absolute best as he begins the next phase of his professional life.” The Kapsch departure comes weeks after BUZZMEDIA VP of programming Gillian Sheldon shifted to Berman Braun.

Such is life at a fast-paced, celebrity-driven operation. Meaning that along with these two departures, there are a variety of new CELEBUZZ arrivals to pass on:

- Andrea Simpson, who worked with Howard at Radar Online and Star magazine, is CELEBUZZ news director;

- Kristin Koch, formerly senior editor of style at XO Group, has assumed the similar title of senior editor at CELEBUZZ. She also previously contributed to Vanity Fair and iVillage;

Dylan Howard Takes Over as Celebuzz.com Editor-in-Chief

This is definitely one of the funnier ways we have found out about a major shift in the ranks of top-tier entertainment journalists.

A little earlier today, we posted an item about the new Chevy Chase audio released on celebuzz.com. We were a little confused, as the byline was that of Dylan Howard (pictured), for the past two and a half years the senior executive editor of Star Magazine and Radar Online. Thankfully, Howard has set us straight via email:

I joined BUZZMEDIA as editor-in-chief of Celebuzz just a few weeks ago. My appointment is part of an original content effort that is intended to make Celebuzz the leading celebrity news source.

We have an exciting opportunity to create the definitive celebrity editorial experience — where readers will find showbiz content that is authoritative, comprehensive and engaging. It isn’t just about breaking news reporting — it is a contextual editorial experience in categories such as television, film, style. We’re also building state-of-the-art video studios in both our Los Angeles and New York offices and intend on producing quality live programming, each day.

Latest TMZ Departure Perpetuates ‘Male Zone’ M.O.

Last Friday, March 4th, senior producer Vania Stuelp‘s return stint at TMZ came to an end when her contract was not renewed. Word is that Stuelp (pictured) and Harvey Levin didn’t exactly always see eye to eye, despite the fact that – as previously reported by FishbowlLA – she has the same attorney as Lindsay Lohan (!)

TMZ remains very much a male-run enterprise. This is certainly not unusual by Hollywood standards, except that in TMZ’s case, the lack of women in senior management stands in stark contrast to the Burbank ranks of parent company Telepictures.

BUZZMEDIA Acquires TheFrisky.com

Former TMZ-ers Gillian Sheldon and Alan Citron have yet another website to watch over at BUZZMEDIA, their expansive Hollywood-headquartered empire of kinder, gentler celebrity and Internet gossip sites. The company announced today that it has purchased TheFrisky.com from TBS.

Launched in 2008, TheFrisky.com averages upwards of two million unique visitors per month and definitely already has the look and feel of other BUZZMEDIA websites like Go Fug Yourself, The Superficial and Just Jared. Per today’s press release:

“The Frisky has a trusted voice that millions have invited into their daily lives,” said Doug Rohrer, BUZZMEDIA’s Chief Revenue Officer. “Its users chase the intelligence, maturity and humor of its content, and this connection serves as the foundation for the high engagement and influence that are the core of BUZZMEDIA’s work.”
