Heidi and Frank Ask Listeners to Share Their Biggest Workplace Absence Lie

Heidi Hamilton and Frank Kramer are a little over a month into their takeover of the coveted Mark & Brian slot on KLOS 95.5 FM. What’s interesting about their approach to mornings is just how actively they are engaging listeners.

Within the space of an hour today, Heidi and Frank fielded calls for a “toddler or tanked” contest (where in some cases a baby audio track is slowed down to make it sound like an inebriated adult), a chat about the biggest lies people have told to get out of work and what some listeners lost out on in a family member’s will. For the workplace fib segment, a former CSUN foreman recalled putting together an elaborate “house fire fight” ruse, complete with self-applied soot.

But FishbowlLA’s favorite call during that segment was the one a Huntington Beach middle school teacher recalled. Three weeks after a female student had told him her mother had died, leading to extra time for a critical assignment, said student showed up at an open house with said mom.

Heidi and Frank Taking Over for Mark & Brian

It sure didn’t take long for KLOS-FM to officially fill the Mark & Brian void.

In a press release this morning from Cumulus Media, it was revealed that starting September 4, Heidi Hamilton and Frank Kramer will be settling into the still-warm chairs of Mark Thompson and Brian Phelps. It’s a wise choice. The likable pair have been doing their thing ably for many years on Star 98.7, KLSX 97.1 and, most recently, the Internet:

“After a long and thoughtful search which overwhelmed us with great, established talent and new talent waiting to be discovered both in and out of radio, I couldn’t be more pleased with the selection of The Heidi & Frank Show to continue on the tradition that Mark and Brian set in place with 25 years of Hall of Fame radio,” said John Dickey, co-COO of Cumulus Media…

Minus Frosty, LA Radio Personalities Heidi and Frank Carry On

When FM powerhouse KLSX 97.1 ditched the talk format in early 2009 in favor of an all-music “Amp Radio” slate, it took down a number of beloved local personalities including Tom Leykis and the so-called “Triplets” – Frosty, Heidi and Frank. Then, last fall, when the trio was dropped once again from new home KABC 790 AM, Frosty Stilwell announced he was leaving the hijinks fold.

Remarkably, in the few months since, Heidi and Frank have found a faithful paying audience with their new podcast. Andrew Wallenstein shares their subscriber stats via a nice profile piece today at PaidContent.org:

The Heidi and Frank Show has attracted well over 6,000 subscribers who are paying anywhere from $5 per month to $50 a year for access to a trove of audio and video programming, including two hours every weekday morning. There’s limited access to a layer of free content intended to get unacquainted viewers sampling and, if this freemium model holds up, signing up for added benefits like ad-free podcasts.
