TV Personality Jill Nicolini Begins at WNYW on Monday

Get Jill Nicolini some new business cards! The popular traffic and entertainment reporter left WPIX/Channel 11 earlier this month for bigger opportunities. Although those opportunities are still hazy, Nicolini has taken her talents to WNYW/Channel 5. She’ll begin on October 3, the Daily News reports.

Channel 5 already has traffic reporter Ines Rosales, while Julie Chang handles the morning entertainment beat.

Nicolini first appeared on WPIX in 2004, and her star has been rising ever since.

Channel 5, Channel 9 Bring Puerto Rican Day Parade to Viewers

It was last Sunday that WNYW/Channel 5 aired live coverage of the Celebrate Israel Parade. This Sunday, Fifth Avenue will play host to the 54th Annual Puerto Rican Day Parade.

Once again, Channel 5 will be handling the event, joined by their Fox sister station Channel 9.

WNYW gives viewers two hours of live festivities, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., before coverage switches to WWOR from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

WNYW and WWOR anchor Harry Martin (left) is parade co-host along with Channel 5 reporter Tai Hernandez. Good Day New York regulars, meterologist Mike Woods and traffic reporter Ines Rosales, will be reporting along the parade route.

WPLJ’s ‘Scott and Todd’ Make Inappropriate Comment to Traffic Reporter

This morning on WPLJ/95.5, hosts Scott Shannon and Todd Pettengill had their usual banter with traffic reporter Joe Nolan just like any other day.

However, in the 8 a.m. hour, the veteran team may have pushed the envelope too far.

Shannon and Pettengirl got into a brief discussion with Nolan, who they praised for on-air training of WNYW/Fox 5 morning traffic anchor Ines Rosales.

The tone immediately shifted, despite clearly teasing, referring to Rosales’ “body.”

Moments later, the show hosts went off-color on Nolan, saying he was using Rosales’ “ass as a pillow.”

Shadow Traffic, which employs Rosales and Nolan, had no comment.

FishbowlNY also attempted to reach a spokesman for Scott and Todd in the Morning.

Welcome to the First ‘Barmash’ Awards for Best in Local News

There are a zillion different year-end countdowns and awards. Well, before too many days go by, here’s one more.

These are the “Barmash Awards” given for the best talent and newscasts in New York TV news. This is by a committee of one—me.

Best Newscast (early morning)

Today in New York (WNBC): Darlene Rodriguez and Michael Gargiulo, Chris Cimino (weather), and Megan Meany (traffic)

Despite only being together for a couple of years, this is well-oiled machine. They have a terrific balance of good personality and good news sense. The Rodriguez and Gargiulo anchor team took some time to establish their chemistry—but by 2010 became the gold standard for dawn patrol. Another important plus is Cimino, doing that shift for more than a decade. He is one the best forecasters, not just at the station, but could easily hold is own among the “prime timers” as well.

Many more “awards” after the jump.
