Last week the appointed governor of Arizona running for the office for the first time had her first televised debate. How’d it go? Well it’s all over the Internet. That’s good right? Let’s just say that in the opening statement Jan Brewer had a Rose Mary Woods erasing the tapes moment on live television. Cue YouTube spoofs.
The one above is from Andy Cobb‘s twisted mind and the Second City Channel. A nearly identical and not quite as good spoof by The Full Ginsburg sent to us this morning.
She also opened herself up to what she says were unanticipated personal attacks.
“The Nazi comments . . . they are awful,” she said, her voice dropping. “Knowing that my father died fighting the Nazi regime in Germany, that I lost him when I was 11 because of that . . . and then to have them call me Hitler’s daughter. It hurts. It’s ugliness beyond anything I’ve ever experienced.”
If Nazi Germany was being fought when she was 11, that would make her in her late 70′s – early 80′s currently. That’s actually pretty newsworthy. She’s spry for a woman of her age.
Only the newspaper didn’t fact check this one. The start-up Arizona Guardian did. Bloggers did. Her father died in 1955, when she was actually 11. She was born at the end of WWII. She’s 65. Since we’ve turned into a country that just loves to throw around the Nazi moniker, this is the most egregious one we’ve seen recently. Awful.
