LA Film Festival Announces 2011 Jurors

The LA Film Festival just announced the jurors for its narrative, documentary and shorts competitions. Looks like Slake‘s Laurie Ochoa is going to have a busy weekend, because not only is she among the staff of the pop-up newsroom Engine28.com, she’s judging the documentary category. Alongside her are Jeff Malmberg, director of the brilliant film Marwencol and executive director of the International Documentary Association Michael Lumpkin. Lynn Shelton, Giant Robot‘s Eric Nakamura and screenwriter Daniel Waters are handling the narrative competition while casting director Margery Simkin, film critic Alonso Duralde, and actress Lisa Gay Hamilton are the shorts jury.

Marwencol Director Returns to His Alma Mater

Director Jeff Malmberg was at his alma mater USC last night for a screening of his brilliant documentary film Marwencol–about a man named Mark Hogancamp who loses his memory and physical abilities after a traumatic beating. To help regain these functions Hogancamp builds a world of dolls, which he then photographs. He calls his doll world Marwencol.
