Thanks to Joseph Heller, It’s Christmas in July for The Strand Magazine

NPR’s Here and Now with Jeremy Hobson and Robin Young had a fascinating report at the beginning of the week about the latest name-brand unpublished work to be discovered and shared in The Strand magazine. It’s the never-before-seen short story “Almost Like Christmas,” involving a Southern schoolteacher, by Joseph Heller.

We were curious about a few more aspects not covered by NPR and got in touch with The Strand managing editor Andrew Gulli. How, for example, does he get clearance for each one of these finds, something he has been focusing on in recent years?

“I had to go to through the estate who granted us the rights to publish the story,” Gulli explains. “ICM were terrific and easy to work with.”

Exiting Marketplace Morning Report Host Thanks His LA Producer

At the end of today’s Marketplace Morning Report, host Jeremy Hobson expressed confidence in his successor David Brancaccio ahead of his immediate transition from New York to Boston to anchor the expanded NPR program Here and Now. The eight-minute American Public Radio show he is leaving behind has an audience of six million listeners.

Given Hobson’s six years of service, one can forgive him for running through a list of thank you’s worthy of an Oscar winner. Topping the list this morning were his two “incredibly talented producers” Justin Ho (pictured) and Sean Bowditch.

Ho works out of APM’s downtown LA offices, while Bowditch is based in NYC. Together with digital producer Katie Long, they will now help Brancaccio and co. put a bow on the day’s most pertinent business news.

Marketplace Adds Heidi Moore As New York Bureau Chief

American Public Media has been busy this past week.  Last Thursday, Jeremy Hobson was promoted into a full-time host role with Marketplace Morning Report and today it was announced that Heidi Moore has been named Marketplace’s New York bureau chief.  M00re will provide her financial journalism expertise on air at Marketplace, Marketplace Morning Report, and Marketplace Money as well as online at marketplace.org.

Executive producer for the Marketplace program portfolio JJ Yore is confident Moore will flourish in her new position:

Heidi is a natural to lead Marketplace’s New York bureau.  She’s an established, authoritative source on Wall Street developments in traditional as well as social media venues, and we’re very pleased to welcome her to the Marketplace family.

In her career, Moore has contributed to The New York Times’s DealBook, The Wall Street Journal, Slate.com’s The Big Money, and New York magazine.  She is well-known among Marketplace audiences as a frequent guest on host Kai Ryssdai’s Friday segment, The Weekly Wrap.

Jeremy Hobson To Host Marketplace Morning Report

After three months as an interim host, Jeremy Hobson has proven himself worthy of a full-time role with Marketplace Morning Report.  Hobson will now host American Public Media’s morning business newscast alongside Steve Chiotakis and be heard by over five million listeners on 400 public radio stations each week.  Hobson is excited to shed the interim tag and continue to inform audiences on global business affairs.

I’m thrilled at the opportunity to host the Marketplace Morning Report.  The show’s mission — breaking down the complex business stories of the day so we can actually understand them — is more important now than it has ever been.  I’ve been in public radio since I was nine years old, and Marketplace is everything I’ve always loved about this unique medium.  It’s timely, insightful, educational, and most importantly, fun to listen to.  It’s an honor to help make it what it is each morning.

Hobson has been with American Public Media since 2007 and reported for Marketplace Morning Report from both the New York and D.C. bureaus.  Prior to his time at American Public Media, Hobson has done reporting and producing at NPR and worked for Boston’s WBUR.

Jeremy Hobson Officially Takes Over Marketplace Morning Report Spot

It’s official. Jeremy Hobson is the new host of American Public Media‘s “Marketplace Morning Report,” where he’ll be joining Steve Chiotakis. Hobson had been hosting the show in an unofficial capacity since October 2010, with the departure of Bill Radke. Prior to stepping in for Radke, Hobson had worked as a reporter for Marketplace in New York and D.C. since 2007, filing stories and features on Wall Street’s greater impact on Main Street.

Marketplace’s morning newscast is broadcast to over 400 stations throughout the country and reaches 5 million listeners.
