Columnist to Alec Baldwin: Silicon Valley Nerds ‘Would Adore You’

ShutterstockAlecHilariaBaldwinSince we recently highlighted Zócalo Public Square editor-columnist Joe Mathews‘ angry cross-country diatribe about Jimmy Fallon, it seems only natural to give equal time to an open letter tied to the opposite, east-to-west direction.

Responding to Alec Baldwin‘s New York magazine essay, Mathews runs down the reasons why Los Angeles might not be the right relocation answer. He notes that this is no longer the LA of Annie Hall and warns that a lot of the NYC scourges mentioned by Baldwin such as TMZ, Shia LaBeouf and thoughtless TV executives are all in Lalaland as well.

Mathews thinks he has a much better potential destination for Baldwin: Silicon Valley. A house in Marin County, he argues, could be the perfect, tranquil fit:

The nerds up north would adore you. Google and Facebook engineers routinely drool over visiting celebrities. Valley venture capitalists have thrown money at celebrity entrepreneurs MC Hammer and Jessica Alba. Silicon Valley folks have touted Ashton Kutcher as a tech guru; imagine how warmly they might welcome someone like you, who can actually act.

Johnny Depp Hangs with Studio City Moms

Every once in a while, Studio City Patch editor Mike Szymanski dons the byline mantle of “Mr. Studio City” to run down the latest local celebrity sightings.

The headline is always done in the form of a rhyme, and for his latest dispatch, he was able to sync up Jessica Alba getting her wrist hurt with a celebrity-crashed school concert:

Another star who loves jazz—Johnny Depp–popped in at the jazz concert at Walter Reed Middle School and shocked everyone. He was coming to watch the daughter of a friend who was performing.

Two More Entities Join LA Geek Media Parade

As of yesterday, the LA version of GeekChicDaily.com’s daily email newsletter is up and blasting. The company — backed by such heavyweights as Peter Guber, Bob Pittman, and Joe Roth — also threw itself a little shindig Thursday night at Meltdown Comics on Sunset Boulevard.

In today’s mirrored website posting, the LA folks ponder potential Fantastic Four kill-off scenarios. For Jessica Alba‘s character, they suggest “forcing Sue Storm’s alter-ego to sit through a screening of The Love Guru. Death by embarrassment.”

Washington, Scott Together Again
Variety is also reporting that Denzel Washington will reteam with longtime collaborator Tony Scott on a remake of The Taking of Pelham 1, 2, 3 for Columbia Pictures. FBLA Photographed With Jessica Alba

jalb.jpegOK, not really. But the current issue of Cosmo features a pic of Jessica Alba on the cover … and a shot of our own Guest Blogger, Chris Gardner inside.

Gardner is Cosmo’s Celeb Gossip Blogger, and the mag ran a little house ad/blurb declaring Gardner a “celeb know-it-all.”

Gardner writes the blog five days a week for Cosmo, a diet too rich in Britney Spears for the rest of us Fishies. But he balances is it out with a nice helping of gay: Keep your eyes open for his upcoming piece in the Advocate about a gays-only PR firm.

Good stuff, Chris!
