MSG Networks, NHL Ready to Drop the Puck on Abbreviated Season

Finally! The NHL ended its lockout that came perilously close to canceling the entire season. Instead, the NHL slashed the schedule nearly in half, much like the NBA was forced to do in 2011.

The shortened schedule gets started this weekend as MSG Network once again is home to the Rangers, Islanders, and Devils.

The Rangers open the 48-game regular season at the Bruins Saturday night. MSG Network covers 41 of the Blueshirts’ matchups. Sam Rosen and Joe Micheletti return to the booth. For Rosen, it is season number 29 with the Rangers. Al Trautwig is back as studio host for all Rangers games at MSG, while Bill Pidto handles the away games.

MSG Networks will broadcast 46 of the 48 Islanders games in 2013. It starts with the Isles hosting the Devils Saturday night. Howie Rose is back behind the mic for an 18th season as play-by-play voice. Butch Goring is beginning his third season as analyst.

As for the Devils, 41 games are featured on MSG. Steve Cangialosi is back for his second season as lead announcer. He is joined by Glenn “Chico” Resch, who drops the puck on his 17th season in the Devils’ broadcast booth.

The Rangers begin the 2012 post-season against the Ottawa Senators at MSG.  Sam Rosen and Joe Micheletti call the action from the booth.

In addition, the Rangers Game Night starts an hour before the puck drops and the 60-minute post-game show immediately follows each game. Al Trautwig hosts each playoff game, while John Giannone reports from rinkside.  Trautwig host the pre- and post-game segment with analysts Ron Duguay and Mike Keenan, who coached the Rangers to their 1994 Stanley Cup Championship.
