Celebrity Journo Files 3rd Restraining Order Against Ex Michael Lohan

Former Star magazine reporter Kate Major petitioned for yet another order of protection against her ex-fiance, Michael Lohan. This is the third restraining order Major has filed against Lindsay’s dad since he was arrested earlier this year for domestic violence. From TMZ:

Major filed docs last week in Sarasota County, FL. — alleging, among other things, that Lohan has threatened to have her dad “whacked” and threatened to “ruin her career.”

According to a police report, included in the docs, cops went to Major’s home last week because she claims Lohan was repeatedly calling and texting her. The report says Lohan called while police were there — and an officer told him Major didn’t want him to contact her anymore.

Major went from tabloid reporter to tabloid fodder in 2009 when she began an affair with story subject Jon Gosselin, a conflict of interest that forced her to resign from her job at Star magazine. She became engaged to Lohan in April on 2010, and the downfall of their relationship was chronicled in part in the most recent season of Celebrity Rehab.

Boston Phoenix: The 100 Unsexiest Men of 2010

The Boston Phoenix out did themselves this year. They nailed the top ten. Curiously, Jon Gosselin and Tucker Max have been moved to the mid-50′s, which seems wrong. But they did have some pretty stiff competition.

Whole list is here.

FishbowlNY’s 2009 Lists: Stories That Captivated NY Media

Here at FishbowlNY, we stick to covering stories that affect the media. But it’s the media’s job to cover the biggest stories in the world today. Here, we take a look back at the news stories that left New York and the world riveted in 2009, covered faithfully by our local newspapers and the other pubs that are based here.

nypost1215 - 2.jpgTiger Woods scandal
The intrigue of this domestic-dispute-turned-sex-scandal started Thanksgiving weekend, and continues today — nearly a month later. Tiger’s escapades provided cover fodder for local tabloid The New York Post for three straight weeks, holding the attention of Post editors even longer than 9/11. And beyond the cover of our local papers and tabloid magazines, Tiger also caused some questions for Golf Digest, which has a close relationship with the golfer and, with some serious bad timing, put him on the January cover with President Obama. Men’s Fitness also got mixed up in the whole mess, reportedly striking a deal with Tiger for a cover story in return for covering up the scandal two years ago.

Does Andrew Sorkin Get Pageview Bonuses From The Times?

parent-9780670021253.jpg

Certain New York media blogs are all puffed with self-righteousness over the news that Dealbreaker‘s Andrew Sorkin made $250k last year, which may or may not have included a bonus that may or may not have been caused by the amount of traffic he was getting, essentially making it a pageview bonus. Which, as these blogs are quick to point out, get shredded by certain traditional journalists as being the downfall to “objective” journalism since it employs a tabloid mentality of “The more people read it, the better it is.” Thus, Octomom, Jon Gosselin, etc, etc. And if The Times is using the same payouts as blogs do, while simultaneously cutting the staffroom and giving huge bonuses to their wunderkind, where’s the fairness there?

But…shouldn’t Sorkin be paid according to the traffic he brings in?

Jon Gosselin’s Charm Makes Girls Drop Pants, Jobs

star.pngWell, it’s official. Jon Gosselin‘s love has driven the Star magazine reporter assigned to cover the “Jon & Kate + 8″ star to quit her job over fears of a “conflict of interest.”

Star reported the news that senior reporter Kate Major had resigned this morning and Us Weekly tracked down the journalist, who was last seen with Gosselin in the Hamptons on Tuesday.

“I didn’t mean it to happen, it just did,” Major told Us. “I went to do a story on Jon and ended up falling for him.”

What is up with this guy that makes 20-something blondes fall head over heels in love with him? We’d love to know.

As news broke this week that Major had been seen out to dinner with Jon, we thought she was definitely going to be getting a great scoop. In fact, Major is one of the writers of this week’s Star cover story, “Kate & Hailey Catfight!” Now that Hailey Glassman is seemingly out of the picture, we can’t wait to hear what she has to say about the matter.

Oh wait, People magazine already talked to Hailey. And told her about Jon’s new main squeeze. “That’s news to me,” Glassman told a People reporter who told her the news. “I still love Jon and Jon loves me.”

(Note to Hailey, you used to date my roommate’s brother so we are practically related. Come tell us your story here! We’ll be waiting for your email.)

Our question is: how often do reporters fall for their subjects? Would you quit your job over an affair with a subject? Would you quit over Jon Gosselin?

As Jon & Kate Head Toward Divorce, Is It Time To Back Off?

jon&kate.pngAfter proclaiming that the “Jon & Kate + 8″ marriage scandal was single-handedly helping to bring a dying media back to life, we thought it only fitting to add our voice to the cacophony of opinions making noise after last night’s “J&K” episode revealed the couple’s plans to divorce.

While watching last night’s very special one-hour episode, we couldn’t help but agree with Kate Gosselin: the show and it’s publicity did not cause this couple’s problems. It may have sped up the process of a total break down in communication, but it also gave the family the means to survive. Maybe Jon wouldn’t have had to quit his job if he had to support the family, but he probably would have grown to resent his wife for something else instead. And without the show, Jon certainly wouldn’t have been able to afford those pretty diamond earrings he was wearing last night, not to mention the hair plugs and the exciting life he now leads. Do you think a 32-year-old, balding man with eight kids would be able to attract 20-something girlfriends without the allure of reality show fame?

Regardless of what the inner workings of Jon and Kate’s relationship might be — before or after the cameras began to capture their every move — what’s at stake is a brand and empire that they have spent the last few years building. It seems that neither one of them wants to let all that hard work go to waste, so both Jon and Kate said last night that filming of the show will continue, even as they try to figure out custody, alimony and all of those lovely things that come with the splitting of assets.

Did you watch “Jon & Kate + 8″ last night?(polls)
