Starting on March 1 Julia Allison will publish a weekly social media and web focused column through Tribune Media Services for newspapers and electronic platforms.  Allison’s “Social Studies” feature will discuss the ins and outs of widely used programs including Facebook, Twiter, Myspace, and LinkedIn and devices like iPads and smartphones.  Allison’s name carries a great deal of weight in the digital media world as she appeared on the cover of the August 2008 edition of Wired and has written for amNew York, Time Out New York, Newsweek, New York magazine, Cosmopolitan, and The Huffington Post.  She also was a key member of Sony VAIO’s ad campaign, working alongside Justin Timberlake and Peyton Manning.

Allison said she looks forward to furthering her role as a leading voice in social media.

I fell in love with social media when I taught myself HTML and created my own Web site as a freshman in college. There isn’t a single area in our lives — socially, politically, economically — that hasn’t been touched by the digital revolution. The thing is, for Denton and Gawker Media, this is all just fantastic. Sure, Denton feels slightly bad. It’s certainly not good business to have a site get hacked. The Post‘s Raakhee Mirchandani included filmmaker and Vanity Fair blogger — and Johnson & Johnson heir — Jamie Johnson and Eater.com co-founder Ben Leventhal on the list along with wealthy banker Topper Mortimer and comedian Andy Samberg.

Here’s Mirchandani’s case for both: Johnson is an heir to part of his family’s estimated $138 billion fortune and writes about the secret lives of the super-rich for VF.com. His only downfall? Stubble. (We can deal.)

Leventhal, according to the Post, is a media mogul (he’s co-owner of the Curbed network and managing editor for lifestyle content on NBC Local Media’s sites) who loves dogs and vintage Rolex watches. The cons of pursuing him? “Used to date Internet fame-chaser Julia Allison.” Today, Allison responded by Tweeting, “Who is this Raakhee Mirchandani?!?! Because I am going to kick his/her ass.”

New York media personality, blogger and entrepreneur Julia Allison has a new gig: corporate spokesperson.

Gawker reports that Allison has signed a year-long deal to make commercials for Sony.

According to Sony, Allison’s involvement is part of a new integrated marketing campaign that is similar to last year’s HDNA campaign. The concept involves a “panel” of celebrities who serve as brand ambassadors. Other celebs involved in this year’s campaign include Justin Timberlake, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning (who was in last year’s commercials, see above), ESPN reporter Erin Andrews, “America’s Next Top Model” judge Nigel Barker, comedienne Amy Sedaris and cinematographer Dion Beebe. The campaign will include national commercial spots, online banner ads, radio and newsprint ads, as well as in-store merchandising, Sony said.

Although the Gawker post about Allison’s new venture is actually very nice to the notorious lifecaster, the best part of the piece is its comment section, in which Allison defends herself and her work. She notes that the Sony deal includes two national television spots, which she shot in June. We’ll keep an eye out for those once the commercials start running next month. (Sony says they’ll start in September and run through next year.)

Also in the comments, Allison revealed some details about a pilot she shot for Bravo for a reality show called “IT Girls.” She said the pilot “sucked” and wasn’t picked up. “This one was really bad,” Allison said about the pilot. “Let’s just put it this way: they chose NYC Prep over it. Yeah. Let that one sink in.”

(You may know it as the home of web celeb Julia Allison‘s “TMI Weekly” or the company that picked up Obama Girl creators BarelyPolitical.com.) He also previously served as vice chair of MTV Networks and president of Nickelodeon before co-founding Next New Networks in 2006, and he brings 25 years of media experience to his role at WNYC.

Meanwhile, NYO‘s Felix Gillette, who was declined an invite for the HuffPo wrist-banded cluster scene last night at the Newseum, managed to sweep in as part of the Jonas Brothers entourage. For her part (also uninvited) Julia Allison told she’d managed slip through the security by storming the red carpet.

The star-studded event lived up to its glamour moniker (we joked on our way in that security was so tight it felt like the secret service was in the building…turns out they were!) and most of the recipients attended the packed dinner at the Essex House afterward — we spotted Nicole Kidman front and center with hubby Keith Urban, tiny Kate Bosworth floating about, and Harvey Weinstein “dropping in” on our way out. Later this twitter from Julia Allison turned us almost entirely green with envy. Internet personality Julia Allison earned her billing last night at mediabistro.com’s panel discussion “Personal Branding Redefined.” That’s not to say the other headliners — Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV and 1938 Media’s Loren Feldman — didn’t deliver, but they were no match for ubiquitous talking head Allison. Held at Manhattan’s new 92Y TriBeCa, the event drew more than 100 attendees: some wannabe brands, some suits seeking marketing pointers.

Festooned in a bright pink top and substantial black heels, Allison — when she wasn’t sitting with her white lapdog slung across her — embodied one of her main tips of the night during her presentation: “Walk with purpose,” she said. “You can get away with just about anything.” Such as?

The party was held at Gotham Hall, the inside of which sort of looks like a set piece from Triumph of the Will meets Lost Boys — great for a party but a bit of a strange atmosphere to watch, say, a former President give a speech. Which is exactly what happened when, shortly after we arrived, David Granger introduced Bill Clinton as the night’s surprise guest speaker (Clinton says every time he comes to Gotham Hall he expects Batman to appear). Actually Clinton wasn’t a surprise to everyone, Wikipedia’s Jimmy Wales later told us that he’d heard about Clinton’s arrival beforehand from Julia Allison, at which point Charlie Rose leaned over to us and asked: “Who is Julia Allison?” More pictures and video of Clinton’s Peron-like speech (but, sadly without the music) after the jump.

Well, Fred Wilson and Arianna Huffington hold the top two spots, Lindsay Robertson, Lockhart Steele, and Nick Denton own slots 31,32,33 (in that order), and mediabistro.com’s intrepid leader Laurel Touby, slides in at 48, just ahead of Emily Gould and Brian Stelter. Julia Allison — apparently a “maker” and not an “influencer” — did not merit a mention. The full list is here.
