KCAL Reporter Captures Chris Dorner Gunfire

KCAL 9 reporter Carter Evans found himself in the middle of gunfire Tuesday afternoon while reporting on the Christopher Dorner standoff in Big Bear.

Officers reportedly spotted Dorner and above is the chilling exchange of bullets, along with Carter (who luckily wasn’t injured) getting chewed out by an LAPD officer.

Just another Tuesday in Southern California.

Carjacking Suspect Killed by LAPD on Live TV

Car chase fans got quite the exciting ending Thursday night when TV cameras were rolling during a tragic end in a bizarre pursuit.

The reported 40-year-old carjacking suspect pulled into a Shell gas station shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Wilshire Blvd. in Koreatown. With an innocent bystander pumping gas just feet away, LAPD officers opened fire on the late model Saturn, killing the suspect in the process —  live on KCAL 9.

While I understand anything can happen on live TV, KCAL 9 followed that up with multiple slow-motion replays of the shooting. A bit excessive, no?

CBS2/KCAL Adding Morning Weekend News Shows

Kevin Roderick at LA Observed points out that CBS2 and KCAL are launching a pair of new morning weekend shows starting Saturday morning.

Anchors Serene Branson and Kaj Goldberg will be paired together and start on CBS2 from 7-8.a.m. on Saturday before switching over to KCAL from 8-10 a.m.

Sundays will see Branson and Goldberg starting on CBS2 at 6 a.m. and moving over to KCAL at 7 a.m.

What better way to start off your new weekend newscast than “Storm Watch” coverage.

Singer Brandy has hired Allan Mayer, the crisis-management guru. She’s being sued for $50 million by the parents of the woman killed in last month’s crash.

The wrongful-death suit claims the actress-singer was driving recklessly when her Land Rover struck the back of a Honda driven by Awatef Aboudihaj, whose car hit another vehicle, slid sideways into the center divider and was then hit by another car.

Celebrities involved in car accidents usually end up apologizing, which Brandy has already done, and then letting their lawyers take over. KCAL 9 has a handy reference guide.
