Time Promotes Four

Time has promoted four staffers. Details are below.

  • Matt Vella has been promoted to assistant managing editor. He most recently served as a senior editor covering business and technology. Vella previously worked for Fortune.
  • Sam Jacobs has also been promoted to assistant managing editor. Like Vella, Jacobs most recently served as a senior editor. Jacobs came to Time from Reuters, where he was a national political correspondent.
  • Kelly Conniff has been promoted to senior editor, special projects. She previously served as social media editor. Conniff joined Time in 2012 from National Geographic.
  • Mia Tramz has been promoted to multimedia editor. She most recently served as associate photo editor.

Time Promotes One, Adds Three

Time just promoted one staffer and added three. Below are the highlights, followed by a memo announcing the changes, from Time’s managing editor Nancy Gibbs, and’s managing editor, Edward Felsenthal.

  • Kelly Conniff has been promoted to special projects editor, overseeing long-term packages and lists. She joined Time two years ago as social media editor.
  • Laura Hibbard has been named audience engagement editor, a new role at Time. She comes to the magazine from The Huffington Post.
  • Michael Lester has been named associate video producer. He was most recently video editor for Talking Points Memo.
  • Sarah Begley has been named digital operations editor. She most recently worked at The Daily Beast.

Time Adds Social Media Editor

Time has named Kelly Conniff its new social media editor. Conniff comes to Time from The National Geographic Society, where she had worked since 2009, most recently as social media manager.

“As part of her job, Kelly will collaborate with other top Time editors to bring an enhanced social focus to the complete Time portfolio,” said’s managing editor, Catherine Sharick, in a memo.
