Talking Media Headlines On The Menu WIth TVNewser’s Kevin Allocca

mmm_2-3.gif

Today on the media- bistro.com Morning Media Menu podcast, hosts Jason Boog of GalleyCat and AgencySpy‘s Matt Van Hoven welcome the latest editor of TVNewser Kevin Allocca to talk about the daily media headlines.

They discussed the recent news about e-mails sent by reporters to Gov. Mark Sanford during his disappearance and affair scandal, MTV‘s new web ads and ABC‘s interview with Joe Jackson and it’s low ratings.

“I think it shows how quickly the public reaches a saturation point,” host Jason Boog said. “Back when Princess Diana died in that tragic car accident, I think a traditional piece like this looking at old footage would have been gangbusters back then. But now people reach a saturation point so much faster because it just bombards you for a week straight after Michael’s death.”

Also discussed: Kevin’s interview with Al Roker about his new morning show on The Weather Channel, why ratings are so low for Sonia Sotomayor‘s confirmation hearings and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” shattering the midnight screening ticket sales record set last summer by “The Dark Knight.”

Hacks Defeat Flacks In Guitar Hero Showdown

hnf1.jpgThe hacks managed to pull out a Guitar Hero win at last night’s Hacks ‘n Flacks party at Artica Bar. Our win was, in large part, due to the amazing GH stylings of AgencySpy‘s Matt Van Hoven, and no thanks to FishbowlNY editor Amanda Ernst, who was crushed by PRNewser‘s Joe Ciarallo during the first round of the competition.

The bar was jammed with journalists and publicists mingling, drinking and enjoying the sounds of Aerosmith-themed Guitar Hero — despite the occasional video booing when players couldn’t complete a round.

One hack and one flack — the high scorers on each side after several rounds of play — scored two free passes each to Mediabistro’s media panel on Thursday.

Thanks to everyone who came out, and a very special thanks to those who bravely attempted to play Guitar Hero. We know it wasn’t easy, especially with everyone staring at your butt!

Check out more pictures from the night after the jump.

Hacks Look To Smack Flacks At Guitar Hero Throwdown Monday

hacks.pngThis morning, we saw that our colleagues over at PRNewser were promising to “axe” the journos (or “hacks”) at the Flacks ‘n’ Hacks party we are jointly hosting on Monday. Well we’re not going to take that lying down! We’re hoping to gather a great group of journalists — who are also very skilled at Guitar Hero — so we can lay the smack down on the PR pros.

Come join FishbowlNY editor Amanda Ernst, TVNewser editor Kevin Allocca and mediabistro.com editorial director Chris Ariens as we challenge PRNewser editors Joe Ciarallo and Team Flack to a Guitar Hero face-off.

And if Guitar Hero (and our presence as hostess) isn’t enough to entice you, there will be drink specials! And at the end of the night, two winners — one hack and one flack — will take home free passes to Mediabistro’s online news media panel next Thursday.
