Maria Menounos Serves Up a Big Fat Reality Show

We are longtime fans of Extra co-host Maria Menounos. When Rod Aissa, senior vice president of original programming at Oxygen Media, says in today’s release that she is “ambitious, unconventional and incredibly funny,” he’s right. Especially about the funny part.

Menounos, previously via Ryan Seacrest‘s radio show and other interviews, has relayed her fondness for throwing herself extravagant annual birthday parties. That’s the focus of the debut episode of Chasing Maria Menounos, set for March 18:

Maria goes all out with a luau-themed [June 8, 2013] party that includes a star-studded roster of friends such as Dancing with the Stars dancer Derek Hough, Perez Hilton and Khloe Kardashian. Maria’s 35th birthday takes on a big significance; what starts out as a party becomes about facing down the realities of getting older and leads Maria to rethink the way she wants to live her life. Luckily for her, she can do it with comedic flair.

US Weekly in a Nutshell: One-Third Kardashian

Bobby Finger points it this afternoon via The Hairpin at a gallery of US Weekly’s 2013 magazine covers. And what a wonderful, acerbic finger it is.

At one point in his summary, Finger combines all 52 main cover headlines into one glorious, what-if article lede paragraph. The fact that the paragraph sort of still makes sense is arguably as damning an inculcation of today’s gossip media as anything coming down the year-end review pike.

Finger also makes use of the trusty one-two-THREE joke construction with his accompanying tabulations and graphs. After some head-spinning US Weekly cover crunching, he sums it up USA TODAY old-school style:

On this morning’s season debut of VH1′s live daily gossip program, New York Daily News reporter Marianne Garvey proudly noted that her paper has broken most of the news about Simon Cowell‘s love child. She went on to discuss the fact that Cowell is set to soon meet the other son of mother Lauren Silverman, seven-year-old Adam.

Summertime, and the TMZ Video Embedding is Easy

Wednesday’s altercation in the streets of Hollywood between Mr. Khloe Kardashian and a pair of paparazzi vehicles is the latest instant national story anchored around some exclusive TMZ video.

The gossip site posted the Splash News footage last night and as a result, this morning it’s powering stories on both coasts. At press time, 25% of those answering an Access Hollywood poll are for Team Paparazzi, while New York Daily News entertainment reporter Rachel Maresca documents how Lamar Odom‘s famous wife backed him up on Twitter.

Odom, Kanye West and their significant reality TV others are accustomed to the paparazzi posse, so it typically takes something extra “special” to provoke. In this case, per The Huffington Post, the trigger was apparently a ruder-than-usual question:

According to Fame Flynet, the agency that obtained photos from the scene, Odom flipped out after being questioned about reports he has been cheating on his wife of four years.

Getting the Skinny on Forbes‘ Blog Plans

Last night, FishbowlLA attended a swanky bash at Drai’s in Hollywood thrown by Forbes magazine. In honor of the newest Celebrity 100 list and cover story “The New Celebrity Money Makers,” the publication handed out fancy crystal trophies to several members of Tinseltown’s entrepreneurial elite: Bethenny Frankel, Gene Simmons, Khloe Kardashian and DumbDumb.com, the Internet content project of actors Will Arnett and Jason Bateman. (Ben Silverman accepted on behalf of the absent DumbDumb duo.)

One of the first people we ran into was Lewis D’Vorkin, Forbes‘ Chief Product Officer and formerly of Tru/Slant. He told us that Forbes.com currently has an astonishing 700 bloggers and that the plan is to up that total to 900 by the end of the year.
