Dynamic Female Duo Now at the Helm of SheKnows

LeaAnnLemingPicThe best way to frame FishbowlNY’s phone conversation today with Lea Ann Leming, chief content officer of SheKnows (pictured, right), and newly hired editor-in-chief Amy Boshnack (pictured, below) is as follows. The company has been profitable for the past several years and expects a 30% increase in revenue in 2014.

Also worth mentioning is the fact that Cosmopolitan, a magazine where Boshnack served as managing editor from January 2005 to January 2008, has just revamped its website. When asked about the then-print vs. now-Web differences, Boshnack notes the obvious change in the speed of news and feature cycles. Per comScore, SheKnows currently averages around 40 million monthly uniques.

“A big thing for me is making sure the women reading us are having conversations,” Boshnack explains. “Part of what’s being done here is continuing to make sure that articles being published are about things women are talking about. And to feed that through our comments section, social media.”

Kim Kardashian Breastfeeds the Media

FameflynetLogoWho needs The Onion’s ClickHole when BuzzFeed gives you things like this?

Below the headline “Kim Kardashian’s Boobs Take North West For A Walk,” writer Whitney Jefferson has embedded a half-dozen truly jaw-dropping pictures of Kim Kardashian. For a recent walk with her just-turned-one-year-old daughter, Ms. K chose to wear what looks like one of Kanye’s smoking jackets. With next-to-nothing underneath.

The plunging-neckline throw-together fully exposed a large portion of Kardashian’s voluptuous assets. At the end of the BuzzFeed item, Jefferson adds and then enlarges one more snap from Fame Flynet Pictures. That one shows, in a rare moment of conflicted judgment, a photographer seemingly glaring his disapproval in the direction of the sexily dressed mom.

Mediaite All 11 current and former co-hosts of The View turned up to send off Walters. THR / The Live Feed Oprah Winfrey and Hillary Clinton were among the surprise guests who showed up to say goodbye. After more than 50 years in TV news, Walters is officially retiring, leaving her co-hosting gig on The View, but she’ll continue to serve as the show’s executive producer and contribute to ABC News on an as-needed basis. The Associated Press Walters brought the hour to a close with a heartfelt statement looking back with amazement on her career, then signing off with a pledge to “take a deep breath and enjoy my View.” But a more telling moment took place during a break, as the throng of women she had paved the way for posed with her for a group portrait. The Daily Mail Breaks Some Anna Wintour News

The chance of a headline typo is certainly maximized at The Daily Mail. So kudos to them for no extra “A’s” in extravaganza.

Per the accompanying text by U.S. showbiz editor-at-large Sara Nathan, the turn-down was reportedly amicable:

A source told MailOnline: “Anna politely declined Kim and Kanye’s kind invitation.”

In Touch Stuffs Kim Kardashian Into a ‘Photo Recreation’

At the top of the In Touch article, the back-view image of Kim Kardashian trying to unsuccessfully squeeze into a wedding dress is clearly labeled as a *Photo recreation. But on the cover, there is no such disclaimer:

InTouchKimKardashian

And while we’re at it, what’s up with the lower-face and chin contouring of the bride-to-be? It’s almost as if In Touch cut the head of Kim from one photo and pasted it on to the body of Kim from another. Even if that’s not the case, someone at the final-proof stage should have said, “I don’t…” to this element as well.

Condé Nast Sued Over Vogue KimYe Cover Shoot Video

Vogue is certainly getting plenty of headlines out of its Kanye West/Kim Kardashian cover. Even if not all of them are positive. The latest news? The magazine is being sued over a song played during the behind-the-scenes video of the shoot.

According to The New York Daily News, Ricky Spicer — an artist who sued West last year for using his voice without permission on West’s song Bound 2 — is now going after Condé Nast.

In papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Spicer claimed that his voice is heard five times during the Vogue video, which is playing Bound 2. “Mr. Spicer’s voice is used substantially throughout the video, comprising approximately 44 percent of the vocals,” the filing said.

The lawsuit said that Condé didn’t obtain permission to use Spicer’s voice, so he’s suing for unspecified damages.

At least Condé knows that the KimYe issue is selling well. That might help take the sting out of this lawsuit.

Vogue KimYe Cover Selling Well

The April issue of Vogue — featuring Kim Kardashian and Kanye West in what appeared to be a David’s Bridal ad on the cover — is selling quite well. According to The New York Post, the issue is on pace to sell between 300,000 and 400,000 copies.

While those aren’t record-setting numbers, they’re not bad either. For some context, the March 2013 issue of Vogue, with Beyoncé on the cover, sold 355,000 copies. The April issue, with Michelle Obama gracing the front, sold a little under 300,000.

That’s some good company, especially considering all the hate the cover received from various “celebrities,” who should probably check themselves. We’re looking at you, Sarah Michelle Gellar. When your career peaks with a TV show about teenage vampire hunters who call themselves the “Scooby Gang,” you don’t get to make fun of anybody.

The Kim Kardashian Vogue Cover is Here

Like we said — what Kanye West wants, Kanye West gets. After months of pestering Anna Wintour to put his boo Kim Kardashian on the cover of Vogue, it has finally happened. Of course Kanye being Kanye, he couldn’t resist putting himself on the front too.

Some people might call a reality TV star gracing the cover of Vogue the apocalypse. Others might refer to it as the end of days.

We choose to call this “Oh snap, Kim K one bad bitch.”

Kim Kardashian Attacks Tabloids

Kim Kardashian has had it with tabloid magazines. In a series of tweets, Kardashian passionately refuted the rumors that she has had butt implants and blasted OK magazine for photoshopping the color of one of her sweaters. These are the things Kardashian deals with so that you can enjoy a peaceful America.

A snippet of Kardashian’s butt rant (we trademarked that phrase):

I’m seeing all these nonsense tabloids claiming I have butt implants-injections. Get a life! Using pics of me 15lbs skinnier (before I had my baby) comparing to me now! I still have weight to lose. Anyone who has had a baby knows how hard it is to lose weight (especially the last bit of weight) & your body totally changes! Making fun of me pregnant & making fun of me trying to lose weight now shame on you… I’m not perfect but I will never conform to your skinny standards sorry! Not me.

You have to admit, she’s got a point. But it’s just so… Funny. At least try to make your moral stances coherent. Shortly after this, Kardashian lashed out at OK for their photoshop job:
