Condé Nast Sued Over Vogue KimYe Cover Shoot Video

Vogue is certainly getting plenty of headlines out of its Kanye West/Kim Kardashian cover. Even if not all of them are positive. The latest news? The magazine is being sued over a song played during the behind-the-scenes video of the shoot.

According to The New York Daily News, Ricky Spicer — an artist who sued West last year for using his voice without permission on West’s song Bound 2 — is now going after Condé Nast.

In papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Spicer claimed that his voice is heard five times during the Vogue video, which is playing Bound 2. “Mr. Spicer’s voice is used substantially throughout the video, comprising approximately 44 percent of the vocals,” the filing said.

The lawsuit said that Condé didn’t obtain permission to use Spicer’s voice, so he’s suing for unspecified damages.

At least Condé knows that the KimYe issue is selling well. That might help take the sting out of this lawsuit.

Vogue KimYe Cover Selling Well

The April issue of Vogue — featuring Kim Kardashian and Kanye West in what appeared to be a David’s Bridal ad on the cover — is selling quite well. According to The New York Post, the issue is on pace to sell between 300,000 and 400,000 copies.

While those aren’t record-setting numbers, they’re not bad either. For some context, the March 2013 issue of Vogue, with Beyoncé on the cover, sold 355,000 copies. The April issue, with Michelle Obama gracing the front, sold a little under 300,000.

That’s some good company, especially considering all the hate the cover received from various “celebrities,” who should probably check themselves. We’re looking at you, Sarah Michelle Gellar. When your career peaks with a TV show about teenage vampire hunters who call themselves the “Scooby Gang,” you don’t get to make fun of anybody.

The Kim Kardashian Vogue Cover is Here

Like we said — what Kanye West wants, Kanye West gets. After months of pestering Anna Wintour to put his boo Kim Kardashian on the cover of Vogue, it has finally happened. Of course Kanye being Kanye, he couldn’t resist putting himself on the front too.

Some people might call a reality TV star gracing the cover of Vogue the apocalypse. Others might refer to it as the end of days.

We choose to call this “Oh snap, Kim K one bad bitch.”

Kim Kardashian Attacks Tabloids

Kim Kardashian has had it with tabloid magazines. In a series of tweets, Kardashian passionately refuted the rumors that she has had butt implants and blasted OK magazine for photoshopping the color of one of her sweaters. These are the things Kardashian deals with so that you can enjoy a peaceful America.

A snippet of Kardashian’s butt rant (we trademarked that phrase):

I’m seeing all these nonsense tabloids claiming I have butt implants-injections. Get a life! Using pics of me 15lbs skinnier (before I had my baby) comparing to me now! I still have weight to lose. Anyone who has had a baby knows how hard it is to lose weight (especially the last bit of weight) & your body totally changes! Making fun of me pregnant & making fun of me trying to lose weight now shame on you… I’m not perfect but I will never conform to your skinny standards sorry! Not me.

You have to admit, she’s got a point. But it’s just so… Funny. At least try to make your moral stances coherent. Shortly after this, Kardashian lashed out at OK for their photoshop job:

The Kim Kardashian Vogue Cover is (Maybe) Happening

Ask and Ye shall receive. According to Jezebel, “a well-placed source” said Kanye West might finally get to see his girl Kim Kardashian on the cover of Vogue.

West has been begging Anna Wintour to put Kardashian on the cover for months. Wintour, being Wintour, didn’t seem to be interested in the idea. Eventually West escalated things from begging to pestering. Last week he even interrupted Wintour during lunch to protest the idea that Lena Dunham was more deserving of a Vogue shoot than Kardashian.

We didn’t think it could be done, but apparently West has finally wore Wintour down. There is one caveat though. The source merely said Vogue photographers were “in LA shooting her RIGHT NOW.” There’s no mention of Kardashian grabbing the cover.

Despite the lack of a cover specification, you would think at this point Wintour is just going to give it to Kardashian so Wintour can live her life in peace. Until North West gets a little older, that is.

Kanye West Confronted Anna Wintour About Lena Dunham Vogue Cover

We interrupt your day to bring you this EXCLUSIVE BREAKING EXCLUSIVE: Kanye West is mad about something. This time, West’s anger is directed toward the great and powerful overlord of Condé Nast, Anna Wintour. Radar reports that West confronted Wintour during a recent lunch because he was upset that Wintour gave Lena Dunham the Vogue cover treatment instead of Kim Kardashian.

According to Radar’s sources, West told Wintour that Kardashian is “just as talented as Lena, if not more so;” and that “Kim has a much bigger fan base and appeal than Lena.” The source did not comment on if West was severely intoxicated or under the influence of powerful psychedelics while delivering these statements.

US Weekly in a Nutshell: One-Third Kardashian

Bobby Finger points it this afternoon via The Hairpin at a gallery of US Weekly’s 2013 magazine covers. And what a wonderful, acerbic finger it is.

At one point in his summary, Finger combines all 52 main cover headlines into one glorious, what-if article lede paragraph. The fact that the paragraph sort of still makes sense is arguably as damning an inculcation of today’s gossip media as anything coming down the year-end review pike.

Finger also makes use of the trusty one-two-THREE joke construction with his accompanying tabulations and graphs. After some head-spinning US Weekly cover crunching, he sums it up USA TODAY old-school style:

Kim Kardashian Appears on CR Fashion Book Cover

Kim Kardashian has grabbed the cover spot of the latest CR Fashion Book, the biannual magazine brought to you by Carine Roitfeld. The reality star was photographed by Karl Lagerfeld back in May, so Kardashian is still pregnant in the images.

For a magazine that’s supposed to be ultra stylish and hip, publishing such dated photos seems like a misstep, but no! Roitfeld feels otherwise. “Pregnancy is something that I always love,” she told WWD. “It’s about hope and the future and a new baby.”

Wow.

Anyone attending a baby shower in the near future, please write Roitfeld’s thoughts down. During the party, when there’s a lull in the conversation, stand up and recite the words. You will win the day.

Summertime, and the TMZ Video Embedding is Easy

Wednesday’s altercation in the streets of Hollywood between Mr. Khloe Kardashian and a pair of paparazzi vehicles is the latest instant national story anchored around some exclusive TMZ video.

The gossip site posted the Splash News footage last night and as a result, this morning it’s powering stories on both coasts. At press time, 25% of those answering an Access Hollywood poll are for Team Paparazzi, while New York Daily News entertainment reporter Rachel Maresca documents how Lamar Odom‘s famous wife backed him up on Twitter.

Odom, Kanye West and their significant reality TV others are accustomed to the paparazzi posse, so it typically takes something extra “special” to provoke. In this case, per The Huffington Post, the trigger was apparently a ruder-than-usual question:

According to Fame Flynet, the agency that obtained photos from the scene, Odom flipped out after being questioned about reports he has been cheating on his wife of four years.

Bonnie Fuller Talks Kim-Kanye Baby Pics

From the moment Kanye West revealed from a stage that Kim Kardashian was pregnant, the race has likely been on among magazines like People and OK! for rights to the exclusive first photos of the famous couple’s child. Now that the baby girl has officially arrived, we thought we’d check in with a New York publishing figure who used to be in the thick of such cutthroat competition for the photo scoop.

“There’s a good chance the baby pictures will not be sold,” Bonnie Fuller, editor-in-chief of hollywoodlife.com, tells FishbowlNY. “Since Kanye has been very vocal about his baby being kept private.”

Fuller suggests three likely scenarios through which the couple may choose to bypass a paid magazine exclusive and possible donation of proceeds to charity. One would be to follow the Tumblr lead of Jay-Z and Beyonce; another would involve setting up a cover story in a prestige magazine like Vanity Fair or Vogue, tying in a photographer of the couple’s choice. The third possibility connects to Monday July 15.
