Drinking On The Sly with HBO’s Boardwalk Empire

Last night, HBO partied 1920′s prohibition-style, with lots and lots of (legal!) booze, at an invite-only fête for this fall’s much-anticipated drama, Boardwalk Empire.

Guests could only gain entrance by uttering a secret password. Once inside, they got a sneak peek at the premiere episode. The event also kicked off a month-long speakeasy campaign to spread the word about the show. Similar password-protected events will be held all around the city, as well as in Chicago, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles, and you don’t need a press pass to score a pour. Celebrating One Year Of One Club/Adversity

On Wednesday, we took a rare dip in the advertising world to check out the celebration commemorating the first anniversary of One Club/Aversity, a non-profit organization established to promote multiculturalism and diversity in creative media industries like advertising.

Founder Julius Dunn and members of the program’s advisory board like David Prince, Singleton Beato of JWT, Sallie Mars of McCann Erickson and One Club’s Tiffany Edwards made quick speeches paying tribute to the important initiative, then a DJ and Smirnoff drinks got everyone into a party mood.

Digital Book Publishing, Gawker’s Revenues and Ashton Kutcher On The Menu

Today on the media- bistro.com Morning Media Menu podcast, hosts Jason Boog of GalleyCat and AgencySpy‘s Matt Van Hoven were joined by AgencySpy co-editor Kiran Aditham to discuss the day’s big media headlines.

Jason opened the show with a discussion about HarperCollins‘ appointment of an editorial director of digital. “It’s sign that major publishers are realizing that there is going to be a large market for this and that’s where things are going,” Jason said. “It’s kind of exciting to see the new push and it’s at a time where the publishing industry is cutting back on everything…but here is something that is actually growing. I think its encouraging.”

Also discussed: Gawker‘s growing revenues and Fleshbot‘s contribution to the company’s bottom line and Ashton Kutcher‘s Twitter presentation at Fortune‘s technology conference last week.
