Harold Robbins’ Cheeky World View Comes Alive in Wife Grace’s Tell-All Memoir

Much like a Harold Robbins novel, the first few pages of Cinderella and the Carpetbagger, Grace Robbins’ recollection of what it was like to be the wife of the mega-best-selling author, reach out and grab you by the shirt collar.

Robbins explains that back in the day, she and Harold threw two kinds of parties. The first were in the grand old Hollywood tradition, packed with A-listers and well-covered by the press. The other were secretly convened bachanals, often abetted by the bartending of Scotty Bowers and a large crystal bowl full of cocaine. It is one of these parties that anchors Robbins’ prologue and helps launch her fantastically entertaining throwback memoir:

“Here” was the master bedroom of our ten thousand square-foot mansion in the famous hills overlooking Beverly Hills – a bedroom so enormous most apartments would easily fit within its space…

Deep Throat at the Alex Theatre… Kind Of

This Fishie drove by the Alex Theatre in Glendale earlier today and was shocked, SHOCKED to see Deep Throat on the marquee. For those of you not familiar with the Alex, Deep Throat is not the kind of flick one would typically expect to see at this particular establishment–even if the film is undergoing a bit of a resurgence. The Little Mermaid is edgy for the Alex. That shameless tramp Ariel doesn’t wear any pants, after all.

Next month’s Joseph the Dreamer, The Musical presented by the Heart of Worship Community Church is more typical fare. Yes, it’s about the bible.

We figured there must be new ownership or the event programmer had a seizure. But the Glendale News-Press set us straight. Turns out the Linda Lovelace biopic is shooting in town and simply borrowed the Alex marquee for the afternoon.

There goes our Friday night plans.

Lindsay Lohan Loses Linda Lovelace Gig

Matthew Wilder has grown weary of waiting for Lindsay Lohan to get out of jail/rehab/more rehab. The director has recast the lead role of his Linda Lovelace biopic “Inferno.” Malin Akerman, perhaps best known for her role as Laurie Jupiter in “Watchmen,” will be taking Lilo’s place.

A rep for the actress tells TMZ it was a mutual decision, made so Lohan could focus on her recovery. Wilder, however, says she was fired. From the LA Times:

While saying that he’d “rather not pick the scab” of Lohan’s firing, Wilder said that finding someone to provide insurance for the troubled actress “was proving a really tough obstacle.”

“I really, devoutly wanted that to work out so badly, I really did,” he said. “I hung in for a long time — longer than most people would, I think. My respect for Lindsay’s talent is huge. But it ultimately was just not a doable thing.”

Probably for the best. Lohan has been whored out by her parents and by Hollywood since she was a child. We weren’t looking forward to watching her get whored out again — even in a fictional context.
