Lisa de Moraes Reconnects with Alec Baldwin

The last time Deadline TV columnist Lisa de Moraes and actor Alec Baldwin crossed paths, it got a little testy. In her final column for the Washington Post, she questioned why PETA champ Baldwin was hosting a National Geographic series that began with an episode about a sports hunter who went polar bear hunting in Canada. The actor spoke to her for the piece, but then after publication went on a mini-Twitter rant about the poor quality of TV beat writers.

De Moraes was in the audience Thursday at the TCA Summer Press Tour at the Beverly Hilton Hotel as Baldwin and his documentary director James Toback took the stage. At one point, a colleague brought up that very Twitter rant:

Deadline Snags Washington Post TV Critic Lisa de Moraes

The farewell party started May 31 in the form of Lisa de Moraes‘ final live chat at washingtonpost.com. Today, her next journalism home has been officially heralded by Nikki Finke and Deadline TV editor Nellie Andreeva. She will be the site’s TV columnist:

“Lisa is one of the most respected and colorful voices in television coverage today,” said Andreeva. “I’ve enjoyed her work as a fan for years, now I’m happy to have her as a colleague at Deadline.”

Aaron Sorkin Writers-Firing Story Turns Into Unholy TCA, Twitter Mess

Yesterday at the TCA, The Newsroom writer-creator Aaron Sorkin hung a reporter out to dry. In a fashion so shocking it probably merits serious consideration as a Season Two subplot.

From Washington Post TV writer Lisa de Moraes’ account of the Beverly Hilton HBO proceedings:

Sorkin took a moment to tell the critics that (a) the writing staff on the show had not been fired; and (b) he had not kept on staff an ex-girlfriend — two elements of a story that had been reported somewhere and picked up everywhere, maybe even by some of those in the room.

“Seeing that in print is scaring the hell out of the writing staff,” Sorkin said. “They’re acting very strange. They’re coming to work early, being polite to me, and I want the old gang back. I love the writing staff.”
