Clipper Accused of Murder After Sick Dunk

If you haven’t seen it by now, Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan had the dunk of the year Sunday night vs. Brandon Knight and the Detroit Pistons.

The dunk was so vicious that not only did Twitter explode, but so did Jordan’s Wikipedia page. According to the Wiki, Jordan was charged for murder after his actions at Staples Center:

Local PA Announcer David Courtney Dies at 56

Los Angeles lost a legend on Thursday as David Courtney, the voice of the Los Angeles Kings, Clippers and Angels, died at the age of 56.

Outside of his work with the local sports teams, Courtney provided sports and traffic reports for 710 ESPN-KSPN, AM 830 KLAA and 99.9 FM. The cause of death is unknown but his last tweet on Wednesday stated that he was awaiting an angiogram at the hospital.

Below is a statement from Los Angeles Kings executive Luc Robitaille:

David was tremendously passionate about the Kings, our fans and the game of hockey. His time with the Kings dates back to the mid 1970s both in our PR office as our public relations director and also with work he did in our video department before he took over full-time Public Announcing duties at the Forum and STAPLES Center. In the arena he was an institution – he was the voice of the Kings – and his work added so much to the live, in-game experience for our fans as it did for the Clippers and Angels as well. Next season would have been David’ 35th year with our franchise, and on behalf of the entire Kings organization and AEG we are incredibly saddened by this news and we send our deepest condolences to his wife Janet and the rest of the Courtney family.

Video: Blake Griffin is Slowly Becoming a Star

Blake Griffin, the other big man in town, continues to find new ways to make me laugh.

We’ve seen him attempt to dunk over a Kia Optima and take a stroll on Sesame Street.

Now the Los Angeles Clippers forward is going back to 1995 in his latest Kia commercial, which dropped days before the 2012-13 NBA season got underway. Griffin is turning into a shining star with each national TV spot.

Plus, you have to love a player that’s not afraid to poke fun at his own flaws on the court.

But in all seriousness, I really hope Blake worked on his free throws over the summer – - just brutal at the line his first two seasons.

Video: ‘Clipper Darrell’ Wants You to Rock the Vote

Both the NBA season and Election Day (Thank God) are right around the corner and Los Angeles Clippers superfan “Clipper Darrell” has teamed up with Rock the Vote to record a PSA.

I’m begging the Clippers organization to treat Darrell Bailey right this season so I don’t have to write any stories similar to the ones FishbowlLA penned in February.

Video: Blake Griffin Visits Sesame Street

Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin will make his Sesame Street debut on Monday during a segment where he demonstrates the word “champion” with character Abby.

No offense to Griffin or the Clippers, but wouldn’t this role be better served for someone on the Los Angeles Lakers where they actually have champions?

Regardless, this is great public exposure for not only Griffin but the Clippers organization, who routinely plays second fiddle to the Lakers.

LA Lakers Are Champs of the Social Media World

While they might not be in the NBA Finals this season, the Los Angeles Lakers are the champions of the social media world.

Social media company Unmetric determined the Lakers rank as the highest social media team from the 2012 playoffs. Miami was second followed by Boston, the Los Angeles Clippers and the Chicago Bulls.

According to Unmetric, the scores are “a scientific blend of 24 qualitative and quantitative social media metrics, weighted and balanced to produce a single benchmarkable number.”

LA Clippers Sign Multi-Year Extension with KFWB

The Los Angeles Clippers, fresh off a thrilling Game 7 road victory over the Memphis Grizzlies Sunday, have signed a new multi-year broadcast rights agreement with KFWB News Talk 980. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Clippers made the move from KSPN-AM (710) to KFWB  in 2009.

“We are so happy to forge forward with our relationship with the Clippers who have captured the hearts of Southern Californians and fans across the country,” said KFWB general manager Valerie K. Blackburn. “The Los Angeles Clippers have emerged as a fan favorite in this town and are an extremely important part of our ongoing commitment to provide quality programming to our listeners.”

Fox Sports Launching Spanish-Language Initiative

In an effort to serve the growing Hispanic community, Fox Sports will broadcast over 100 games in Spanish featuring the Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The number of telecasts will increase to 150 in year two and continue to increase thereafter.

The broadcasts will feature Spanish-language play-by-play, graphics and player interviews. The full schedule hasn’t been announced yet but the first broadcast is slated for April 6 when the Angels host the Kansas City Royals in their season opener.

Cable providers Time Warner Cable, Bright House and Cox have already signed up for the new initiative.

“We’re proud to make this major commitment to Spanish-language sports programming in Los Angeles,” Jeff Krolik, executive vice president of FOX Sports Networks said in a statement.  “Not only is this a great opportunity to serve Hispanic viewers, but it’s also an opportunity to provide value to our affiliates by giving them programming options for their customers.”

Rejoice, Clipper Nation: ‘Clipper Darrell’ is Back

All is right again with Clipper Nation.

Darrell Bailey is back as “Clipper Darrell.” The Los Angeles Clippers super fan posted the following update Monday night:

It is with great enthusiasm and humility that I can officially report my return as “Clipper Darrell.” As a fan I am truly sorry and apologize for any inconvenience this incident may have caused. It was never my intention to create a distraction fueling a media uproar. However, I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support I received, over the past week, when my status with the Clipper’s was in question. I had a cordial and productive meeting with Clipper management and we have a clear and precise understanding of my role. We will now work together to support OUR TEAM and continue the effort in bringing a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP to CLIPPER NATION!

The Clipper Front Office in the Eyes of Bomani Jones

Talented SB Nation contributor Bomani Jones chimed in on the Clipper Darrell/Los Angeles Clippers front office incident during the second episode of his brand new web series, Bomani & Jones.

Something tells me the LA Clippers front office is really as dysfunctional as Jones’ humorously portrays it.
