Complex Founder Tries to Bash GQ, Fails

For some reason, Marc Ecko — the founder of Complex — attempted to bash GQ on Twitter. We say attempted, because despite his declaration that Complex was “new” and GQ was “old,” he not only used the wrong Twitter handle for GQ, he got his own magazine’s handle wrong too.

Complex Spins-Off From Parent Company To Distance Itself From Debt

cover_bell21.jpgComplex magazine, founded by Marc Ecko and headed under the parent company Marc Ecko Enterprises, is about to grow wings and fly the coop.

That is, Complex will now be part of Complex Media, also owned by Ecko, but without all that bothersome debt that its original publisher carried with it. Complex raised $12.8 million in funding for its new venture, not an easy task in today’s publishing world. Giant Sale?

diddy_giant.jpgJamie Hooper, owner/publisher of Giant — the beleaguered, baffling men’s magazine that has seemingly changed editorial direction as often as Radar has been relaunched — is selling the magazine to Radio One, Radar reports:

Sources close to [Hooper] speculate that he may leave the magazine business altogether for a career in political fundraising. Says one Giant insider, “Jamie’s gotta be thanking his lucky fucking stars.”

OK, then.

Earlier this year, unsubstantiated rumors had Giant being sold to Marc Ecko‘s Complex, leaving the open the intriguing possibility of an uber-magazine called Giant Complex, something Complex publisher Rich Antoniello vehemently denied.
