Deciphering the Shia LaBeouf Tabloid Reports

Expect this to be topic number one on tonight‘s episode of Chelsea Lately.

At a Paul & André Hollywood nightclub pop-up event Friday August 26 sponsored by Belvedere vodka and attended by Chelsea Handler and others, actor Shia LaBeouf is reported to have engaged in some attention-getting behavior. But as far as the specifics of what went down, it really depends on which media report you read.

An August 27 dispatch from Life & Style magazine relays the eyewitness perception that the actor “seemed wasted.” A “spy” for UK Mirror gossip columnist Dean Piper swears the regurgitated water bottle business was the result of an altercation between the Transformers star and rocker Marilyn Manson. However, the New York Post suggests the H2O meshuggenah involved LaBoeuf and a friend of Manson’s.

Then there’s the official statement from LaBoeuf’s publicist, who not surprisingly claimed none of the above:

“Shia actually left early as planned,” Shia’s rep tells Life & Style. “He went to see one of the bands performing in the showcase and left after they finished. Exiting through a crowded room was apparently misinterpreted. No altercation occurred.”

Marilyn Manson Powers LA Weekly Web Editor’s Resignation

That was fast and, evidently, carefully orchestrated. Friday, February 25th was LA Weekly web editor Erin Broadley‘s last day at the alternative weekly’s Culver City offices. In her resignation email previously reported by FishbowlLA, Broadley promised to let readers know where she landed.

Sure enough, yesterday came the spectacular news via her former employer of Broadley’s new gig. She will be collaborating with Marilyn Manson on the rocker’s first authorized biography:

“I asked Erin to write an objective account of my life because I have great respect for her,” said Manson. “I think she has the balls to be the next Lee Miller.” (Miller, the press release explains, “was a Surrealist-era journalist, famous for her work with Man Ray and breaking into Hitler’s apartment while working for Vogue during WWII”).

Graph Of The Day: Geoff Boucher takes in the landscape at the Spike TV Scream Awards and notices George Lucas (whom he’s met before): “Backstage, Lucas, standing not far from black-clad rock star Marilyn Manson and comic-book industry icon Stan Lee, seemed a bit dazed by the strange confluence of pop culture streams. ‘This,’ he muttered, ‘is something.’”

With two wars going on, an election a few weeks away and the economy in the toilet, we have a tough time believing stories about the gaming industry really require the serial treatment.

Jonathan Ames Returns To The Ring

Bored? Nothing going on tonight? Like blood? Five-foot-ten, 156-pound Brooklyn humorist, Marilyn Manson profiler, friend of FishbowlNY (and one-time mediabistro.com instructor) Jonathan Ames, 43, who sometimes goes by the name of “The Herring Wonder,” is set to take on six-one, 162-pound fellow novelist Craig “The Crippler” Davidson in an exhibition bout at Gleason’s gym in Brooklyn.

The last time Ames stepped into the ring, in 1999 against David “Impact Addict” Leslie, he broke his nose in the second round.

    Getting spun for Spin

Is Jonathan Ames following in Chuck Klosterman‘s Chuck All-Stars? The latest Spin magazine features a cover story by Ames on Marilyn Manson, the controversial Goth-rocker who appeared to be enamored with the New York-based humorist and writer.

Since the entire article isn’t online, here’s a handy guide to what we learned about Ames and Manson:

    • Manson has a live-in assistant/butler named Arvin.
    • Arvin keeps the absinthe flowing.
    • A German distillery is developing a Manson-branded absinthe: Mansinthe?
    • Manson’s mansion is as creepy and weird as you’d imagine.
