Pix11 Launches Investigative Unit

PIX11_LogoPIX11 has announced the creation of Pix11 Investigates, an investigative journalism unit/show. Pix11 Investigates will be led by Mary MurphyHoward Thompson and Arnold Diaz, who joins Pix11 on March 31. Diaz is best known for his amazing Shame, Shame, Shame segment, which aired on WNYW until January of this year.

“Howard and Mary have built their reputations on helping right wrongs,” said Mark Effron, Pix11′s VP of news, in a statement. “Now with the addition of Arnold Diaz, who has a storied career as an investigative consumer reporter, we strengthen Pix11’s goal of keeping our viewers informed.”

Noreen Lark will oversee PIX11 Investigates.

WNYC’s “The Takeaway” Names New Host

Celeste.jpgSeveral months after co-host Adaora Udoji left “The Takeaway,” WNYC and Public Radio International have brought on a permanent replacement.

The morning news show’s producers today announced that starting Monday frequent guest co-host Celeste Headlee will be joining John Hockenberry on the drive time broadcast.

Most recently, Headlee worked as the Midwest correspondent for NPR’s “Day to Day.” She has also worked as a reporter and anchor on public radio stations in Detroit and Flagstaff, Ariz.

Former “Takeaway” co-host Udoji left the show in April to spend more time with her husband and newly adopted baby girl. In June, MSNBC‘s former VP of daytime programming Mark Effron became executive producer of the show.

“The Takeaway” Names New Exec Producer As Host Is Named To Presidential Committee

takeaway.pngToday, public radio morning drive show “The Takeaway” appointed a new executive producer: MSNBC‘s former VP of daytime programming Mark Effron.

“The Takeaway” is a jointly produced by New York public radio station WNYC and Public Radio International. Earlier this year, the show lost co-host Adaora Udoji who departed to spend more time with her family.

Effron, a journalist and TV and digital media exec, joins “The Takeaway” from Titan TV Media, a digital network where he served as president and COO. He also writes on industry trends for trade publications like The Communicator.

And in other “Takeaway” news, earlier this week the White House announced that the show’s host John Hockenberry had been appointed to the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships, along with Tom Brokaw and others.
