Report: Ax Has Already Fallen on Top Patch Execs

We have been hearing the same rumor today. According to Business Insider’s Nicholas Carlson, as Patch is gearing up for a very Black Friday August 9, it has already jettisoned two of its highest ranking execs:

Patch president/COO Steve Kalin and chief content officer Rachel Feddersen are out, a former Patch executive who remains in contact with people at the AOL-owned local news network says…

We’ve been unable to get AOL public relations to confirm or deny the news. An AOL spokesperson told us the company is not commenting on Patch personnel matters.

Latest Patch Site is Hyper-Fictitious

And, in this anniversary month of the death of Walter Cronkite, Propwash Junction Patch is being edited by Windy Kronkite, no less.

She and the entire site are fake. Although Propwash Junction Patch looks and feels like every other recently redesigned Patch site, it’s actually a clever rich content ad for Disney’s August 19 animated feature Planes.

Links to the fake Patch, like the one above, are being embedded across real Patch sites. For our money, the funniest part of the Propwash hub is the local editor’s bio.

Outside.in’s Josephson ‘Thrilled’ to Join AOL; Patch Produces a Piece of Content Every 15 Seconds

Fresh off the news this morning that AOL had acquired hyperlocal aggregator Outside.in for $10 million, representatives from both companies appeared this morning on a panel at Borrell Associates’ Local Online Advertising Conference at the Grand Hyatt to talk about the deal as well as the current gold rush taking place in hyperlocal media.

Mark Josephson, Outside.in’s CEO, said he was “thrilled” to be joining AOL, which will use his technology to beef up aggregation of information around the content produced for its Patch network of hyperlocal sites. He said that Outside.in had gone out of its way to build incredibly powerful tools for local journalists, and to serve consumers by organizing local media sources within tools and dashboards. Josephson said that he had envisioned a partnership with Patch since he heard of the company’s inception.

Reader’s Digest Media Names Mark Josephson VP

Reader’s Digest Media has named Mark Josephson, a Meredith vet, as its new vice president.

Josephson was most recently the vice president, publisher of BHG SIM and also worked as publisher of Country Home, eastern advertising director for Ladies Home Journal, and eastern sales manager for Better Homes & Gardens.
