BBC Gets This Week’s Big Martina Navratilova Story

The circumstances of Martina Navratilova‘s public coming out were messy. Despite a hold request from the tennis star, the New York Daily News jumped the gun with a July 30, 1981 article, prompting a follow-up piece in the Dallas Morning News by Skip Bayless and, eventually, Navratilova’s coming out as fully gay rather than, as then, bisexual.

GLAAD Awards: The Paarty Never Ends

2007MA_NomineesThumb.gif

The GLAAD Media Awards nominations have been announced, and these selections are a lot more fun than the Oscars or the Golden Globes. Nominated for best wide-release feature is Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, along with Little Miss Sunshine, V for Vendetta, Running With Scissors, and The Night Listener. Borat is not mentioned, not that anyone expected it to be.

Special awards will be presented to Patti LaBelle, Martina Navratilova, Tom Ford, and Spanish language jouranlist and writer Jaime Bayly. Navratilova’s the best tennis player ever, LaBelle’s an icon, Bayly’s received death threats in his native Peru and Ford just released a very stinky perfume, so we’re a tich confused about why Ford gets an award, but whatever. He looks great all dressed up, and that’s what counts at a party.
