USC Launches Matt Barkley Heisman Campaign

All it took was an upset victory against No. 4 Oregon on the road at Autzen Stadium for the USC athletic department to start a Heisman Trophy campaign for quarterback Matt Barkley.

Barkley threw for 323 yards and four touchdowns Saturday as the Trojans held on to a 38-35 victory over the Ducks.

The Newport Beach junior has numbers similar to that of previous USC Heisman winners Carson Palmer (2002) and Matt Leinart (2004) through 11 games.

Hurting Barkley’s chances of even receiving an invite to the Dec. 10 ceremony in New York is USC’s ongoing probation and bowl ban. He has one last game to impress Heisman voters when the Trojans host crosstown rivals UCLA Saturday night at the Coliseum.

LA to Get New York Jets Games on the Radio

Los Angeles may have a tentative stadium deal. But we still don’t have a football team lined up. Rumors are we’re after the San Diego Chargers. One team we definitely won’t be getting is the New York Jets. But that isn’t stopping “ESPN 710″ KSPN-AM from putting their games on the radio. Starting next season, Angelenos will be able to hear all 16 Jets games live on the radio. KSPN execs are obviously hoping folks are still curious about the exploits of former USC star Mark Sanchez, now QB of the Jets.

“It’s an honor to be able to bring Mark Sanchez back to LA and back to his huge local fan base,” KSPN VP/General Manager Scott McCarthy said in a statement. “There is tremendous passion for the NFL here in LA, and this partnership with an elite franchise will further energize the Southland’s sizable population of football fans.”

Sounds good and all. But this Fishie would rather listen to Matt Leinart as he curses and stews while riding the bench in Houston.
