Bloomberg TV’s Matt Miller Bounces Back from 2013 Hit-and-Run

Here’s an impressive way to bridge the gap between graduating from Columbia Journalism school and starting a job at Alaska’s Cordova Times: crank out a solid longform piece for Business Insider.

MattMillerPicThere’s a personal connection here. Long before attending Columbia, article author Ben Yeager, at age 10, met Bloomberg TV’s Matt Miller (pictured) on Fire Island, where their families owned adjacent summer homes. Yeager does a great job of recounting the horrible hit-and-run accident that Miller was involved in on May 29, 2013, and notes that the pickup vs. Ducati motorcycle incident has done little to slow Miller down:

Miller covers business (and increasingly Bitcoin). He is also an automotive-industry reporter, a gig with serious perks. He is rarely without a luxury sedan or sports car — think Aston Martins, Bentleys, and Ferraris — provided by the automakers for his segments.

Madeleine Brand ‘Presses Play’ on New Noon Show on KCRW

Promo_madeleineprimaryMadeleine Brand launched her new KCRW show “Press Play” on Monday after spending over a year off public radio airwaves.

Long a rush-hour fixture in Los Angeles, she quit her top-rated morning news show on KPCC in September 2012 after the Southern California Public Radio station forced her to take A. Martinez, a former sports commentator, as a co-host. KPCC, a rival NPR-affiliate to KRCW, was required to hire a Latino co-host to receive the full payment of a $1.8 million grant from the Corporate for Public Broadcasting.

Brand resurfaced a month later on public television, contributing to KCET’s “SoCal Connected.” The next month, she was already reportedly in talks with KCRW.

BleacherReport.com Adds Lead Writer Component

Having amassed in just three short years a monthly unique visitors count of 20 million, San Francisco based sports website BleacherReport.com seems to have astutely recognized the need for broader quality control.

Earlier this year, they hired King Kaufman away from Salon.com to oversee writer development. Now, they have assigned “lead writer” status to some of their stalwarts, who will be tasked with mentoring respective subject matter area contributors. Per today’s press release, former SportingNews.com contributor Dan Levy is the new national lead writer, while the NBA beat will be overseen by Bethlehem Shoals:

Shoals is the founder of the wildly influential NBA blog FreeDarko and a co-author of FreeDarko’s two books. He is a regular contributor to GQ.com and has also written for Sports Illustrated, Deadspin, and AOL FanHouse.
