Vogue.com and Style.com Share Floor at One WTC

Staffers for Vogue.com and Style.com are getting cozy. WWD reports that the teams will share the 29th floor at Condé Nast’s new headquarters, One World Trade Center. We know. This is a bit much. It’s a story only a media reporter could love. Okay, maybe “love” is too strong. This is a story a media reporter could give a hearty handshake.

Initially, the plan was for Vogue’s staff — both digital and print — to occupy the 25th floor. This would’ve been a change for Vogue, which had kept digital and print staff separate at 4 Times Square. But in a dramatic change of events, Vogue.com and Style.com staffers recently learned they would both be taking over the 29th floor.

The change makes sense. In November we learned that Style.com’s brass would be reporting to Vogue’s brass. Style.com’s publisher Matt Rice now reports to Vogue’s publisher Susan Plagemann, and Style.com’s editor Dirk Standen now reports to Vogue’s editor Anna Wintour. Might as well combine the two websites’ teams too.

Style.com Changes Reporting Structure

Style.com is getting swept under the Vogue rug. Well, maybe that’s a bit dramatic. According to WWD, the site’s publisher Matt Rice and will now report to Vogue’s publisher Susan Plagemann. Likewise, Style.com’s editor — Dirk Standen — will now report to Vogue’s editor, Anna Wintour.

The move seems to indicate that Condé Nast execs aren’t too pleased with Style.com. At the very least, they want to give the site a kick in the pants via changes in content and strategy.

As WWD reports, a Style.com/Vogue combo is actually quite retro:

Fourteen years ago, the site was established as the online home of Vogue and W magazines. But Wintour lobbied for years for her own site for Vogue, and so, in 2010, Style.com was pushed out of Condé Nast to Fairchild Fashion Media. It was shuffled back to Condé this summer, when Fairchild was sold to Penske Media Corp.

Obama: Foley Execution ‘Appalled’ the Entire World (TVNewser)
President Obama took the podium Wednesday in Martha’s Vineyard to speak about James Foley, the American journalist who was beheaded by ISIS in a video released Tuesday. The United States Wednesday morning verified the authenticity of the video, which also shows another captive American journalist, Steven Sotloff, and warns that he will be next to die. FishbowlDC Obama said, “No just God would stand for what they did yesterday or every single day… People like this ultimately fail. They fail because the future’s won by those who build and not destroy. The world is shaped by people like Jim Foley.” ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, FOX News, CNN, MSNBC and Al Jazeera America all broadcast Obama’s statement live. NYT Obama declared on Wednesday that the entire world was “appalled” by the videotaped beheading of Foley by Islamic militants, speaking as American warplanes conducted 14 airstrikes in Iraq and the State Department asked the Pentagon to send as many as 300 more American troops to Iraq for security. Mashable Obama sent U.S. troops to Syria earlier this summer to rescue a number of Americans held by a violent extremist group, including Foley, but the troops did not find the hostages, senior Obama administration officials said Wednesday. The officials said the rescue mission was authorized after intelligence agencies believed they had identified the location inside Syria where the hostages were being held. HuffPost Associated Press CEO Gary Pruitt condemned the murder of journalist Foley in a statement on Wednesday. His murder should be treated as a war crime, according to Pruitt. Foley went missing in Syria in 2012. He contributed to the GlobalPost and Agence France-Presse, among other media outlets. TVNewser CBS’s Clarissa Ward changed her profile picture, Fox News’s Conor Powell remembers him as “a great guy,” while Al Jazeera journalist Mohamed Fadel Fahmy, himself imprisoned in Egypt, says Foley’s murder “will spark a revolution against terrorists.” These are just some of the ways those who knew and worked alongside the intrepid journalist are remembering their colleague killed by ISIS militants.

Matt Rice Named Style.com Publisher

Condé Nast has named Matt Rice publisher of Style.com and NowManifest, the curated blog portal. Rice has served as associate publisher of the brands since 2012.

Rice has been with Condé since 2007. He previously served as advertising director of Style.com and executive director, international fashion of Style.com, WWD and WWD.com.

“Matt has been very effective at building awareness of Style.com and NowManifest among advertisers looking to connect with deeply-engaged audiences of fashion influencers,” said Robert Sauerberg, Condé’s president, in a statement. “He will continue to expand these brands at Condé Nast as we look to increase their reach on all platforms.”

Fairchild Fashion Media Makes Publisher Changes

There have been two changes at Fairchild Fashion Media. Pamela Daniels has joined the company as the new publisher of Beauty, Inc. Daniels comes to Fairchild from Rodale, where she served as business development director since February.  She will report to Paul Jowdy, vice president, publisher of WWD.

Additionally, Matt Rice has been promoted to associate publisher of Style.com, NowManifest and Style.com/Print. Rice was most recently advertising director for Fairchild.

Style.com/Print Names Advertising Director

Matt Rice has been named Advertising Director of Style.com/Print, the print counterpart to the fashion website. The title launched in early November and was billed as a way to give readers insight into the spring 2012 season.

Rice will continue his duties as Executive Director, International Fashion at WWD, WWD.com and Style.com.
