Michael Kuntz Leaves Hearst for Gawker Media

Michael KuntzMichael Kuntz is leaving Hearst Magazines for Gawker Media, where he’ll serve as VP of sales. Kuntz had been with Hearst for only a little over a year, serving as publisher and chief revenue officer of Popular Mechanics.

The time with Popular Mechanics was Kuntz’s second stint with Hearst, as he head worked there from 2006 to 2009, serving as a director of sales for SmartMoney.

In a tweet, Nick Denton, founder of Gawker, described hiring Kuntz as a “big get.”

Michael Kuntz Named Popular Mechanics Publisher

Michael Kuntz has been named publisher of Popular Mechanics magazine. He most recently served as associate vice president of digital sales at Rodale. Kuntz had been at Rodale since 2010.

Popular Mechanics is continuously evolving to stay at the forefront of content innovation – both in terms of its creation and cross-platform delivery to readers,” said Jack Essig, senior vice president, publishing director and chief revenue officer of Hearst Men’s Group, in a statement. “Michael’s extensive integrated sales and marketing experience will only further accelerate Popular Mechanics’ ability to deliver powerful brand synergies on behalf of our advertising partners.”

Kuntz joins Hearst and Popular Mechanics February 19.

Prevention Promotes Michael Kuntz To Associate Publisher

Prevention has promoted Michael Kuntz to associate publisher, integrated sales, effective immediately. Kuntz previously served as Prevention’s digital director in charge of ad sales for the eastern region.

Before joining Rodale, Prevention‘s parent company, Kuntz worked as senior director of strategic development at Kontera  and served as SmartMoney‘s director of digital strategy.
