Verrone and Winship Discuss WGA Deal on FOX Business

More WGA congratulations. Michael Winship and Patric Verrone on Fox Business.

Winship on the 17-day window agreement stated in the contract:

We would have liked to have closed that window completely. That is one of the things we did not achieve in this contract and something we will be working on going forward. The important thing is that we got jurisdiction in new media, we got jurisdiction in the Internet and we got a percentage of the distributors’ gross. These were our major goals and we achieved those.

WGA Strike On for Monday

The WGA announced it would go on strike as of Monday, November 5th.

The press conference was conducted by WGA West head Patric Berrone, WGA East’s Michael Winship and the WGA negotiating committee chair John Bowman.

The first shows effected by the strike will be the late night talk shows which depend on writers for their day and date opening monologues. Those shows will likely go into repeats as soon as the strikers begin picketing. The majority of the scripted TV series would begin to see the effects of a strike in 1st and 2nd quarter 2008.

And the Guild’s taking no chances with the membership getting false info. In an email sent to all members:

The media and online blogs are not always the best and most accurate source of news–the WGA is. We will keep you informed and up to date.

Look for writers at the Nordstom half-yearly sale, stocking up on comfortable shoes for walking those 4 hour shifts on the picket line.
