Michelle Lee Named EIC of Nylon

Michelle Lee has been named the new editor-in-chief of Nylon. Lee comes to the magazine from Magnified Media, where she served as chief content and strategy officer since last year. She previously served as editor-in-chief of InTouch, from 2004 to 2012.

Lee takes over a publication that has seen its share of chaos over the last couple months. In May alone, Nylon lost its CEO — who had only been there for two weeks — and its associate publisher and executive editor.

In an effort to settle things down and perhaps change the culture a bit, Lee said she plans to expand features and hire more writers. “The basic DNA has always been style and culture, and I don’t want to change that,” she told the Post. “But I feel Nylon can be a little edgier and a little flashier.”

Radiotitans.com Adding More Colorful Shows

Launched this past summer, Internet broadcaster Radiotitans.com is the brainchild of Jake Belcher, Brant Thoman and Carl Kozlowski, a stand-up comic, film critic and arts editor for the Pasadena Weekly. For a fee of $50 per hour, a wide range of comics and entertainers have chosen to stream their programs through the Hollywood-based outlet. Alongside flagship podcast Grand Theft Audio, hosted by the station’s three co-founders.

There are currently 16 shows on the grid including weekly interview programs Name-Dropping with Jason Stuart, for which the openly gay comic (and SAG LGBT Committee chair) has talked to everyone from Hollywood writer Bruce Vilanch to actress Michelle Lee, and Inside Out with Joie Blaney. Come January, more impressive programming will be added.

Writer and executive producer Rick Najera (In Living Color), set next month to also direct another Diversity Sketch Comedy Showcase for CBS, will be starting up an interview program focused on ethnic and other diversity-spectrum entertainers. Two more Radiotitans.com programs being finalized are to be hosted by Puerto Rican comic Brenda Lamberty and African-American stand-up Laurence White.

In Touch Weekly Gets Two New Editors

In Touch Weekly has named Dan Wakeford, Editor-in-Chief of Life & Style, its new Editor-in-Chief. Wakeford will edit both titles.

WWD reports that Alexis Chiu, a Senior Writer at People magazine, is headed to In Touch as well. She will serve as its Executive Editor.

In Touch Loses Editor

intouch cover.jpg Keith Kelly reports today that Bauer Publishing‘s celebrity tab In Touch Weekly has lost its editor.

According to Kelly’s sources, Richard Spencer left his post “abruptly” on Monday, as the magazine was in the midst of closing deadlines. The reason for the departure could be a dispute with Bauer’s CEO Hubert Boehle over pay. Said Kelly:

“Signs point to a monumental blow-up between Spencer and [Boehle] — possibly over Spencer’s demands for a boost in the $750,000-a-year compensation package he was said to be pulling down.”

In Touch‘s executive editor Michelle Lee is the likely successor for Spencer, Kelly added. A Bauer spokesperson has not yet returned our requests for comment.
