Mike Catherwood Says Radio Career Has Been ‘Insane’ Since Filling in on Live

Mike Catherwood is a 32-year old radio veteran, known to most people outside of New York as the co-host of the national syndicated Loveline with Dr. Drew. The show, though, is not heard in New York.

Catherwood, got his big exposure with the Big Apple when he was selected by Live with Regis and Kelly as part of the “Men of Radio Co-host for the Day” contest. By January of 2011, the native of Pasadena, California had a fill-in opportunity on the show opposite Kelly Ripa. That led to an appearance last season on Dancing With The Stars.

“It’s been insane. I’ve been lucky enough to have way more success in the radio industry than I could ever dream of. But the radio industry is an incredibly anonymous industry,” Catherwood says. “When you all of a sudden put your face out there on such a visible stage as the Regis and Kelly show, it was crazy to see people’s reactions.”

Mike Catherwood Would Love to Replace Regis

Los Angelenos are probably familiar with “Psycho” Mike Catherwood, the former assistant producer of the Kevin & Bean show on KROQ and host of Loveline with Dr. Drew Pinsky.

But the 32-year-old bachelor developed quite the national following last year after appearing as a contestant on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and filling in for Regis Philbin.

With Philbin’s full-time replacement still in limbo, Catherwood would still love to replace the man he dubs, “the Babe Ruth of broadcast TV.”

“From a broadcast standpoint, that’s a dream job,” Catherwood told FishbowlLA.” He’s such a professional and has been for more time than I’ve been on this planet. I would love to do that gig. I don’t hold much hope that I would be selected, but I would love to do it.”

Loveline with Dr. Drew Joins WRXP Evening Lineup

Westwood One’s Loveline with Dr. Drew and Mike Catherwood makes its New York debut on Emmis’ WRXP. The sex talk call-in show airs on ‘RXP starting tonight from 10 p.m. to midnight.

Loveline addresses the issues of young people today in the arena of sex, relationships, and health. With WRXP, Loveline is now in seven of the top 10 markets.

The show is hosted renowed sex and addiction specialist, Dr. Drew Pinsky, and “Psycho” Mike Catherwood.

Loveline is an exciting addition to 101.9 ‘RXP and a benefit to the tri-state audience,” said Leslie Fram, WRXP program director. “Dr. Drew’s credibility and Mike’s personality are a perfect match for our nightly programming.”

Broadcast from Los Angeles, Loveline is the nation’s most successful and longest running radio call-in program. Dr. Drew has hosted the show for 25 years.

“We continue to give great information in an entertaining context,” added Dr. Drew. “Mike creates an event in the studio every night. He’s a great radio talent. New York listeners won’t be able to resist this.”
