Next Issue Launches on iPad

Next Issue Media, a digital venture from big publishing houses, is now available on the iPad. The app lets users subscribe to up to 39 magazines for a flat, monthly fee. The subscription fee breakdown, via paidContent:

Unlimited Basic: $9.99 per month, gives readers access to all monthly and biweekly magazines

Unlimited Premium: $14.99 per month, adds weekly titles, such as Sports Illustrated and The New Yorker

Single magazine subscriptions ranging from $1.99 to $5.99 per month

Single issues ranging from $2.49 to $5.99

As time goes by, Next Issue will add more titles, but for now, whether people subscribe to this service is questionable. If someone reads a lot of magazines — and they’re included in the 39 — and they don’t mind not getting the print versions, sure, this will be a good deal. Otherwise, not so much.

The full list of magazines available and a review of the Android version of the Next Issue app is after the jump.

Next Issue Media Releases Magazines on Android Platform

Ad Age is reporting that Next Issue Media (NIM) has finally launched magazine apps on tablets that aren’t called iPad. NIM was hopeful back in January that when it launched it would feature two magazines from each of the publishing houses that own a stake in it (Hearst, Meredith, Conde Nast, Time), but it looks to have fallen short of that goal.

As of now, there are seven magazines available through the Verizon V Cast Store: Time, Fortune, The New Yorker, Esquire, Fitness and Parents. Just like the Apple subscriptions, consumers can purchase a single issue or subscribe for a year.

It’s a good start for NIM, because even though the iPad is the most popular tablet, there are always going to be consumers who want to use something else. Now those people have a way to read some of their favorite magazines on tablets.

NIM is taking a small step here, but that’s better than nothing at all.

New Publisher Consortium Gets A Name

The much anticipated magazine publisher consortium, which officially announced its intention to launch some sort of e-reader format earlier this month, now has a name.

Folio reports that the partnership between Condé Nast, Hearst, Meredith, News Corp. and Time Inc., led by Time’s John Squires, will be called Next Issue Media. But even with a name, the consortium has yet to divulge what its digital reader format will be, or offered up names for a yet-to-be-revealed e-reader device and digital storefront.

Regardless, we’re waiting to see what they come up with, when they decide to unveil it.
