THR Lands Interview with Pat Kingsley

As the specter of Nikki Finke has been to entertainment journalism, so too once was the aura of Pat Kingsley to celebrity PR. And given Hollywood Reporter executive features editor Stephen Galloway‘s wily ways, we’re not at all surprised that it is he who landed Kingsley’s first official post-retirement interview.

THRPatKingsleyImageGalloway paid a visit to the 81-year-old Kingsley at her Pacific Palisades home the day before Thanksgiving. She remains too classy to spill the beans on former clients and any major contretemps (except for The TODAY Show and Jeff Zucker; what does that say about Zucker?). Rather, the joy of this feature comes largely from the small details about Kingsley’s current life and daily routine:

She gets up around 7:30 or 8 a.m., makes breakfast and does a little exercise. Then she switches on CNN (“I want the news, not opinions”), watches that and sports but relatively little entertainment…

Paul Haggis Corroborates Vanity Fair Scientology Cover Story*

Labor Day weekend is turning into another massive PR nightmare for Hollywood’s top-earning actor. One that not even his once formidable protector Pat Kingsley could have likely circumvented.

First came the Saturday online tease for Vanity Fair’s Maureen Orth October issue cover story “What Katie Didn’t Know.” The article details how Iranian-born actress Nazanin Boniadi was unwittingly auditioned in late 2004 by the Church of Scientology to be Tom Cruise’s girlfriend and slotted into that role for what turned out to be a tumultuous few months. CoS watcher Tony Ortega commented Sunday that Orth deserves extra credit for figuring out a way to expose this latest bit of sordid CoS history (officially denied by the church):

Boniadi has wanted to tell her story for years, we’d heard, but she’s bound by multiple non-disclosure agreements from doing so. We hear that Orth managed to do a classic “write-around,” putting together Boniadi’s story without help from Boniadi herself.

Website Dredges Up Allegations of Some Ugly Tom Cruise-Anthony Pellicano Business

When this particular civil lawsuit was originally leveled in 2009, Tom Cruise’s lawyer Bert Fields called the accusations made by plaintiff Michael Davis Sapir “absolute garbage.”

Nevertheless, in the wake of Katie Holmes’ divorce filing, such a lawsuit is suddenly fair media-game. And so, Celebuzz has today published exclusive snapshots of the original court documents and stacked them alongside a thousand and one Church of Scientology Cruise news items:

“In or about the mid 1990s,” Sapir claimed in the lawsuit, “Cruise visited Pellicano’s office for the purpose of listening to wiretaps.”

Schwarzenegger Biographer: ‘I Told You So’

Long before this month’s Schwarzenegger love child scandal erupted and many years prior to the infamous LA Times groping charges of 2003, Wendy Leigh authored Arnold, an unauthorized March 1990 biography of the future Governator.

A lot of things were left out of the book, but that still didn’t stop Arnold’s publicist at the time, the all-powerful Pat Kingsley, from throwing up all manner of PR roadblocks on his behalf. Now, with Schwarzenegger fully exposed, Leigh has shared more salacious info about Arnold (beyond her separate 2003 reporting of another alleged Schwarzenegger love child). The journalist-author also recalls in the Daily Mail piece her feelings about the 1990-91 stateside  media lockdown:

Virtually muzzled by their reverence for Arnold’s marriage to Maria Shriver, as well as their desire not to embarrass her, much of the U.S. press failed to report the well- documented research in my book. At the time, I was disappointed. And when, just days before the election in 2003, the press finally deigned to take notice of my book, it was too late. Arnold Schwarzenegger became Governor of California.
