NYT Trails Tony Awards Publicist Rick Miramontez

Gotta sing! Gotta promote! That could be the chorus for Patrick Healy‘s fun look in the New York Times at what goes into keeping Tony Awards prospects hot.

It’s also why a guy like Rick Miramontez gives complimentary tickets for Beautiful: The Carole King Musical to a doll like Liza Minnelli:

Minnelli followed him backstage where, minutes later, she greeted the show’s star, Jessie Mueller, a Tony nominee for Best Actress in a Musical…

Mark Your Calendars: The New York Times’ Arts & Leisure Weekend Is Coming In January

Break out your 2011 calendars, people. The New York Times is set to hold its 10th annual Arts & Leisure Weekend from January 6th through the 9th. The event will include TimesTalks interviews with big names across a variety of fields, conducted by New York Times journalists.

Some of the guests slated to participate include CBS anchor Katie Couric, who will be interviewed by Gail Collins; Food Network star Ina Garten, interviewed by Alex Witchel; James Levine, music director of the Metropolitan Opera and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, interviewed by Daniel Wakin; Terence Winter, the co-creator of “Boardwalk Empire,” will be interviewed by Charles McGrath along with actors Steve Buscemi and Paz de la Huerta. Additional interviews will be conducted with pianist Lang Lang; Annie Proulx, author of Brokeback Mountain; actor/director Robert Redford; actor/director/producer Kevin Spacey; and film and stage director Julie Taymor.

The weekend will also include performances by the likes of Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and American Idiot director/co-writer Michael Mayer, who will be interviewed by Patrick Healy. There will be a salute to the music of Tim Rice (aka the writer of nearly every Disney song you’ve sung into a hairbrush) and a performance by Rufus Wainwright and Martha Wainwright.

So save the date. But, please, leave your hairbrushes at home.

Times Pool Reporter Makes Plea To Hillary Campaign

Via FishbowlDC, New York Times pool reporter Patrick Healy‘s memo to other pool reporters. Note the third paragraph:

According to the campaign, after the University of Iowa event, the Clintons met with a group of 60-70 people — some of whom attended the rally, and some of whom were invited to come meet with them. WJC spoke briefly introducing HRC, and then HRC took some questions, and then Tom Vilsack wrapped up by saying here’s-why-you-need-to-support-hillary.

THEN the Clintons go into a smaller room with about 20-25 of these people and asked them to be county coordinators, etc. They did this last night after the fairgrounds event, and they are doing it after each of the events today. They also did this in Des Moines with about 300 people. The Clintons are hoping that these smaller-group exchanges will help seal the deal with Iowans and sign up county leaders.

Please note: I asked the campaign if your pool reporter could attend these private events, at least the next one in Davenport. It was told no — that the Clinton political team had decided that these events should be private. I argued that these events were newsworthy events and that we were entitled to have a single pool reporter there, at the least, and also noted that our media organizations were expending significant resources to have reporters here — and that the press corps should not be restricted to only covering the same 6 rallies. I’m told the campaign would take my request and argument under advisement; it might help if other reporters and producers made similar requests.
