Playboy Battles Vanity Fair Over Nudes of Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe, despite being dead for 50 years, still has a knack for stirring up controversy. The latest incident comes to us thanks to Vanity Fair, which promises to showcase Monroe’s “Lost Nudes.” Playboy, according to The New York Post, is rather annoyed over Vanity Fair’s claim.

“None of these nude photos were lost — in fact, they are in the Playboy photo archives, or have been previously published in Playboy,” a post on the magazine’s site bluntly states. “…We ran them 48 years ago, in our January 1964 issue, or again in January 2005. Sorry, Vanity Fair. Sometimes when something is too good to be true, it really is too good to be true. In the parlance of today: You got got.”

We’re not entirely sure that people actually say “you got got,” but you have to love that bitchy tone. A Vanity Fair spokesperson countered that Playboy’s attack isn’t correct, that some of the nude Monroe photos in its latest issue have, in fact, never been published.

Even with that disclaimer, we doubt that this is over. Apparently nothing lights a fire under Hugh Hefner like pointing out that he published a dead woman’s nudes first, so we look forward to whatever lies ahead.

President Obama Reads The New York Times, Not Playboy

In the latest issue of Rolling Stone, President Barack Obama gives a wide-ranging interview, and of course he is asked about his reading habits. Obama says that he reads The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post “just to catch up,” but then, when asked if reads Paul Krugman, he replies:

I read all of the New York Times columnists. Krugman’s obviously one of the smartest economic reporters out there, but I also read some of the conservative columnists, just to get a sense of where those arguments are going.

That’s right. ALL of the Times’ columnists. That’s quite a healthy dose of Times commentary.

We can’t say the same about Playboy writers; Obama said he doesn’t read the magazine. He said nothing about the pictures though…

Hugh Hefner Says Goodbye to Chicago

Playboy publisher Hugh Hefner officially said goodbye to Chicago this weekend, penning a guest op-ed column in the Chicago Tribune:

Chicago shaped Playboy in ways I didn’t realize at the time. New York City seemed a world away from the rest of America, sophisticated and socially advanced, detached from the remainder of the country. Chicago stood as the most significant representation of true, post-war America. The high-rises and subways brimmed with urban men who returned to the city after their experiences abroad and found themselves receptive to ideas that challenged their socially conservative surroundings.

Marston Hefner pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor domestic violence charge after an incident last month with his girlfriend and 2011 Playboy Playmate of the Year Claire Sinclair.

The son of Hugh Hefner was sentenced to a 52-week domestic violence program and ordered to stay away from Sinclair for three years, according to the Pasadena City Prosecutor’s office.

If convicted in a trial, Marston Hefner faced more than a year behind bars.

Breaking Down the Magazine Super Bowl Parties

Before the Giants win the Super Bowl on Sunday, there are parties to be had. The New York Post reports that ESPN The Magazine, Rolling StoneMaxim and Playboy are all having festivities, starting tonight. Since we won’t be attending them, let’s break down what we’re missing.

ESPN is kicking things off tonight with a party featuring a performance by Drake. Cam Newton will be the guest of honor, which is cool, but Drake — a man who sings about love, longing to love and loving love — isn’t a guy that we associate with letting loose.

This is Rolling Stone’s first Super Bowl party, and it’s bringing LMFAO, Lupe Fiasco, Cobra Starship and Gym Class Heroes to entertain guests. A ticket for the magazine’s Saturday party is $1,000.

Playboy Moving Entire Operations to LA

Playboy is saying goodbye to Chicago for good.

The company’s headquarters are relocating from Chicago to Los Angeles on April 30. In December, the magazine announced the publishing team would move to the new Beverly Hills office by May, but now everyone from the Chicago office is packing up and headed west.

Chicago is the birthplace of founder Hugh Hefner and is where the magazine was created in 1953.

“Playboy’s executives have made the difficult decision to close the company’s Chicago office and move its headquarters to Los Angeles,” the company said in a statement. “The company’s roots began in Chicago, and the city will always be connected to the brand’s beginning.”

LiLo Playboy Cover Breaking Sales Records?

Is Hugh Hefner full of hot air?

The Playboy publisher tweeted Sunday that “the Lindsay Lohan January-February Double Issue is breaking sales records.”

TMZ.com reported that newsstands have had to re-order the issues multiple times. But when CNN called a dozen newsstands in Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta and New York, only one location was sold out of the issue.

Considering the entire spread was leaked online and that the world is no stranger to Lohan’s assets, I find it hard to believe that this issue is breaking sales records.

But for $1 million, I hope Hefner has made his money back at least.

Judge Doesn’t Want Copy of LiLo’s Playboy Issue

Lindsay Lohan and Judge Stephanie Sautner sure have come a long way these past few months.

After it appeared the actress was headed back to jail (for more than 30 minutes this time), Lohan got her act together and successfully completed her first round of community service. Sautner was so impressed with Lohan Wednesday that she even worked in a Playboy joke, according to the Los Angeles Times:

Lindsay Lohan Misses Ellen Appearance

Lindsay Lohan had quite the Hawaiian getaway this past weekend.

Someone stole $10,000 from her Chanel purse, she strolled the beaches with her nipple hanging out and ended up missing her flight back to Los Angeles and as a result, her appearance on Ellen.

Lohan was booked on the syndicated talk show to reveal her Playboy cover, but the entire spread was leaked last week, killing any buzz around her interview with Ellen DeGeneres.
