Partial List of Pulitzer Judges Leaks

Quartz has published the names of 44 of the Pulitzer Prize judges who have begun the process of figuring out who will get journalism’s highest honor.

Is this exciting? Not really. Especially since it’s probably not the full list and the judges taking part are publicized after the awards are doled out anyway.

However, it’s a slow news day, so here’s a few of the judges: Raju Narisetti, Rachel Smolkin, Lincoln Millstein and David Callaway. Check out the rest here.

New York Times, Wall Street Journal Win Pulitzer Prizes for Journalism

The Pulitzer Prize winners in journalism were announced today, and despite the crashing Pulitzer website, FishbowlNY managed to secure the entire list!

Among New York newspapers, the New York Times won in two categories, “Commentary,” and “International Reporting,” with Clifford J.
Online Writers Now Have Greater Shot Of Winning Pulitzer

Good news to all those Woodward and Bernstein bloggers: the Pulitzer Prize committee has now opened up the requirements for winning an award in journalism to make online reporters eligible for the prestigious honor.

Now “entries for journalism awards must be based on material coming from a text-based United States newspaper or news site that publishes at least weekly during the calendar year,” according to the revised Pulitzer rules. This change is a baby step from last year’s eligibility requirements, which read that nominees from online organizations could be considered, but they, like their print counterparts, had to be “primarily dedicated to original news reporting and coverage of ongoing events.”

Considering the varied and sometimes esoteric nature of online publications, the rules for this year consider the writer and their piece over the publication they work for, according to Sig Gissler of the Pulitzer Prize Committee. This is definitely a boon to all those investigative bloggers out there who don’t yet write for pubs like The Huffington Post.

Read the fully-revised policy, after the jump.

Pulitzers to Recognize Original Online Reporting

Just in time for the demise of print (or maybe in recognition of it) the blogosphere has finally been made official! At least in the eyes of the Pulitzer Prize board, and really, (unless you are Sam Zell) does it get more official than that? Ha. According to the press release the Prizes “have been expanded to include many text-based newspapers and news organizations that publish only on the Internet.” Meaning, among many other things, we suppose we’d better start paying more attention to our spelling and grammar. There’s also this:

The Board also has decided to allow entries made up entirely of online content to be submitted in all 14 Pulitzer journalism categories…While broadening the competition, the Board stressed that all entered material — whether online or in print — should come from United States newspapers or news organizations that publish at least weekly, that are “primarily dedicated to original news reporting and coverage of ongoing stories,” and that “adhere to the highest journalistic principles.

How long till someone makes the argument for Perez do you think? In keeping with the day thus far we have posted the entire press release after the jump.
