Michelle Obama Won’t Read Jodi Kantor’s Book

New York Times reporter Jodi Kantor is making waves with her book The Obamas, which is being described as a tell-all of the administration and First Family that chronicles the tensions within both. Naturally, everyone is clamoring to read it.

Except The First Lady.

In an interview with CBS News, conducted by Gayle King, Mrs. Obama cleared up some of the allegations from Kantor’s book — including clarifying the status of her relationship with former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel as close, although the book painted it as strained.

She readily admitted that she hasn’t read Kantor’s book, adding:  “…who can write about how I feel? Who? What third person can tell me how I feel, or anybody for that matter?”

Valid questions.

Journalists, Celebs Swarm DC For WHCD Weekend

whcd.pngNothing gets New Yorkers to jump on a bus faster than a party, especially a party where the guest of honor is the Barack Obama. For the second time this year, journalists and celebrities flocked to the Beltway to party it up with the prez–this time for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday.

Our colleagues over at FishbowlDC have extensive coverage of the weekend in the capitol. They hit all the fashionable pre-parties including ones hosted by The National Journal and The Atlantic and CBS. They hung out with celebs like Connie Britton, Ellen Burstyn, Tim Daly, Dana Delany, Kerry Washington and Rachael Leigh Cook at the Creative Coalition’s Thursday night fete and spied Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Rashida Jones, Jon Bon Jovi, Owen Wilson, Jason Bateman, Natalie Portman, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Brad Hall, Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Dennis Leary, Glenn Close and BJ Novak at the Vanity Fair/Bloomberg after-party.

Of course, FBDC correspondents were also at the main event. If you missed it, you can watch Obama’s full (and pretty funny) speech here. Our favorite part of the President’s speech was when he teased Rahm Emanuel with a Mother’s Day jab: “He’s not used to saying the word day after ‘mother.’”

Denver ’08: We Drink CNN’s Milkshake!

100_2983.jpgCNN may equal politics, but the CNN Grill equals heaven. FBNY is currently inside the Grill drinking a chocolate milkshake with no plans to move, maybe ever. CNN has done a very good job of branding the convention space and the Grill (in our opinion) is the crowning glory. It’s a sort of conventioners oasis set up in the perimeter zone. You have to have a CNN credential to enter (or know someone who does) but once inside there is free food, and drink, and a dessert menu that includes a “make your own cupcakes” option.

It’s also the place for hungry and thirsty heavy-hitters. Rahm Emanuel is sitting at the front table with his children, CNN head Jon Klein has a booth to our left, LA mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is getting interviewed in front of us, and Nancy Pelosi and her entourage just sailed by. Anderson Cooper is chatting it up with Walter Isaacson and we think we just spotted Jeffrey Wright. Did we mention the free milkshakes? It’s also a bit of a mediabistro alumni lovefest — we’re sitting here with former FishbowlNYer Rachel Sklar and the original FishbowlDCer Garrett Graff…word on the twitter is that Patrick Gavin is on the way.
