Reality Weekly to Go Tablet Only

Congratulations America, Reality Weekly is officially a flop. The New York Post reports that the magazine hasn’t been selling on newsstands, so its being yanked and turned into a tablet only publication due late this summer.

When Reality Weekly debuted in December of last year we were worried for our nation. Would you accept such a bad idea into your lives? After all, you already made Flo Rida a success. Then, after some time went by and there were mixed reports about its success, we started to feel hopeful. Now we feel energized to hear that the print version of the magazine has been denied.

David Pecker, AMI’s CEO, told the Post that he was confident the tablet version would work, because he only needed to guarantee 25,000 downloads to advertisers. But Pecker is underestimating you once again.

Rise up America! Stand up for your right to not read dumb things. We believe in you, dammit.

The Drama of Reality Weekly

Just what is going on at Reality Weekly, the recently-launched mag from AMI? People outside of the magazine have been saying that it’s a flop, that the debut issue sold only 100,000 copies despite there being 500,000 available, and every issue since has failed to hit that mark.

However, AMI says that everything is going great. A spokesperson told WWD that each of its 13 issues so far have sold 100,000 copies and that the magazine is already raking in a profit. The person also said there are even talks of creating a news show centered on Reality Weekly.

So who do we believe? A news program based on a magazine that’s based on reality TV? Is there really a demand for that? We’re not so sure. Although we have to be honest, if Johnny Bananas is an anchor of that show, we’ll definitely watch.

A Reality Check for Reality Weekly

America has the shame of Guantanamo Bay, the ridiculousness of Apple fanaticism and the sadness of Lil B’s Twitter account, but we are not accepting Reality Weekly, and we should all be proud of that.

Official numbers aren’t yet available, but sources told WWD that sales for the magazine have been terrible. Apparently the debut issue sold only about 100,000 copies, despite 500,000 being available at newsstands. From there things got worse, as following issues sold even less.

AMI, Reality Weekly’s publisher, is disputing WWD’s report; they say that the numbers are higher. But FishbowlNY believes that the magazine has been a dud. We believe that for once, we all have chosen to ignore the ubiquitous reality TV celebrity world. We believe that people — despite their downfalls — are inherently good. And dammit, we believe in America.

The Kardashians to Launch Magazine Dedicated to Themselves

New year, more Kardashian. Despite The Kim Kardashian Effect losing its power toward the end of 2011, 2012 is starting with rumors that the family has reached out to several media companies about launching a magazine dedicated to the family.

The New York Post reports that the Kardashians are close to a deal with American Media Inc., which makes sense, since the company already publishes Reality Weekly, a magazine that makes us hate America.

Details about the Kardashian magazine are few and far between, but sources say that the women will be intensely involved editorially and Kris Jenner won’t be the Editor-in-Chief. Of course she won’t. She’ll merely be the Overlord-Selling-Each-Part-of-Her-Family-Until-It-Withers-and-Dies-in-Chief.

Can’t wait for the debut issue! A couple quick cover story ideas: Kim’s “sexy revenge” on waffles, Kourtney can’t find her favorite socks and what Khloe really thinks about giraffes.

Reality Weekly Sets Bar Low

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new low in the magazine industry. Reality Weekly, a magazine dedicated to reality TV and its “stars,” launched Wednesday. WWD reports that the magazine is $1.79 an issue and features the queen of reality TV, Kim Kardashian, on the debut cover.

What’s inside? A weekly column from Victoria Gotti, contributions from Simon Cowell and “exclusives” from West Coast Editor Omarosa. There’s also sections titled “Fights of The Week” and “Hottest Shots.” But that’s not all! There will surely be more crap.

We all have American Media Inc. to thank for blessing us with this new publication. However, if it does well, maybe we should all thank/blame ourselves.
