Scholars Seeking Richard Widmark’s Hitler Youth Film

200px-1maximilianschell.jpg

Actor Richard Widmark, who died earlier this month, had been an amateur filmmaker back in 1937. On a post-college cycling trip, he and a friend shot a short 8mm documentary about Hitler Youth camps. Widmark played Col. Tad Lawson, the prosecutor in the 1961 film Judgment at Nuremberg.

“I talked to him the day we were not reappointed, or as Donald Trump would say, ‘You’re fired,’ ” Eastwood said in an interview, his gravelly impression of Schwarzenegger’s Austrian accent producing a kind of Dirty Harry-meets-the Terminator effect.
