Spotted at the Downtown Film Festival

The premier of American: The Bill Hicks Story was sold out last night. The theater was packed with fans of the late comedian, his family, friends and tons of comics who worked with him.

Pictured above is comedian and actor Rick Overton, who most of his peers would agree is a George Carlin heir apparent. He was friends with Bill Hicks.

After the screening we ran into storyteller/comedian Dylan Brody who featured for Hicks in upstate New York in 1985. “I was so needy and self-absorbed and you never would have known by the way he treated me,” Brody tells FBLA.

FBLA’s Complaint Letter or Things That Make You Go ‘Huh?’

The great comedian/actor/legend Rick Overton has remarked real funny is never picking on those without power. Comedy is to rib the powerful. And so because we believe Rick is right, we don’t poke fun at the pitiful – it’s mean. We got a letter that we actually thought was a joke at first. Yesterday, we wrote:

We thought it was nice revenge to unleash Sarah Palin on the Brits who have mucked up our coasts with their incompetence. Tit for tat. A shill for a spill.

Now it’s spelled right. The grammar is good. It’s funny. There’s clever alliteration. It’s timely. And then we got “an official complaint”:

I will never read your bullshit magazine ever again and I am reporting Tina Dupuy for hate language and for insulting the British people. You guys are supposed to be professionals. This is so shocking. I have promoted this sick article throughout the media and the amateurishness of Tina Dupuy. –Ginger Liu

Insulting the British people? Hate? Sick? We wrote her and asked her to stop flaming us personally or we’d print her insane complaint. You know, give her a chance to change her mind, we’ve written some nasty stuff on cold medicine, we get it. Now she’s accused us of threatening her. So here it is. And we’re not going to make fun of her, because Rick Overton told us not to.

Carlos Mencia Killed by Cracked

There are comic’s comics, like Bill Hicks, Rick Overton and George Carlin. Then there are comics that other comics hate. Like Carrot Top and Carlos Mencia.

See here for the backstory on why comics don’t dig the Mencia.

Cracked Magazine ran a piece titled, “Carlos Mencia’s Twitter: 25 Posts Too Unfunny to be Stolen“. We thought it was pretty clever satire before we realized it’s actually from Mencia’s Twitter feed.

Eep.

Rick Overton Takes on Media

Emmy-winning writer, accomplished actor and George Carlin heir apparent, Rick Overton says good-bye to Bush and tells the media off.

About Alan Colmes,”I cough too hard, I snap my neck!”

About Bill O’Reilly, “Shut up with all your researched details! I’m fed up with answers! Blahh!”

Go See Comedy Nation’s Final Bush Sendoff Tonight

We are a recovering Rick Overton stalker…because he’s a genius and we love him. Who if he had died 15 years ago would be thought of as Bill Hicks – but since he’s still around – he’s doing a free show tonight in Hollywood with one of your humble editors here at FBLA.

It’s not a stand up show – it’s a comedy/news panel that will be filmed for broadcast on the Internet. This one will be particularly fun because we’re all retiring our favorite Bush jokes.

Wednesday Night, Comedy Nation This Week presents some of the most brilliant comics in LA giving George Bush the goodbye he deserves.

CNTW is a weekly webshow where the smartest, funniest comics go off on the news of the week.
