Which New York Times Magazine Kissing Couple is Your Favorite?

Thanks to another well conceived, well shot and exceedingly well cast New York Times Magazine interactive feature, our headline is a question we imagine many more will be asking. This particular batch of bonbons, titled “9 Kisses,” features the publication’s A-list riff on those recent viral videos of strangers meeting and kissing.

The San Francisco Chronicle zeroes in on the fact that two of the nine celebrity couples chosen for the kissing vignettes are same-sex: Rosario Dawson-Jenny Slate and Timothy Spall-David Oyelowo. Here at FishbowlNY, much like Kevin Frazier at Entertainment Tonight, the one we can’t stop watching features Steve Carell and Laura Dern.

Critic Rolls His Eyes at Rosario Dawson’s NYT Character

ShutterstockRosarioDawsonThough relatively limited, the pantheon of New York Times reporters committed to film and TV has included such memorable characters as Sam Waterston‘s Sydney Schanberg in 1984′s The Killing Fields and Matt Borner‘s Felix Turner in this year’s HBO drama The Normal Heart.

Another NYT movie reporter is about to hit the big screen, via Chris Rock‘s Top Five. But according to Grantland’s Wesley Morris, this newsroom derivation is memorable for entirely different reasons:

Rock stars as Andre Allen, a recovering alcoholic and comedy star being trailed by the least-likely-ever culture reporter for the New York Times. It’s not that she’s played by Rosario Dawson. It’s that the plot twist around her character doesn’t make ethical sense. Together, they visit his New York universe and hers (she’s in recovery, too)…

Steve Bing Feature to Premiere on YouTube

Set in ten bars around LA, writer-director Sebastien Gutierrez‘s comedy-drama Girl Walks Into a Bar stars such familiar names as Carla Gugino, Rosario Dawson, Josh Hartnett, Danny DeVito, and Zachary Quinto. However, when the film premieres March 11th, it will do so not in theaters but rather simultaneously at SXSW and on YouTube, for free.

Producer Steve Bing and promotional partner Lexus are dubbing their movie “the first major motion picture created specifically for web distribution.” Per today’s press release:

“The movie escapes the confines of traditional film production and is a bold undertaking that is set to transform the film industry,” said Dave Nordstrom, vice president of marketing, Lexus. “It seems fitting to support this initiative as we launch our most unconfined vehicle yet—the CT 200h hybrid —in a space that we know will reach an unconventional, sophisticated audience.”

Head of Environmental Media Association Gets Some UK Love

Even though the press releases section for LA’s Environmental Media Association website is woefully out of date, with the most recent item dating back to 2006, we’ve got some good material for an update. The group’s president Debbie Levin (pictured) has just been anointed “Hollywood’s conscience” by London’s The Observer newspaper.

In its Sunday January 16th Eco Power list of 20 individuals the newspaper feels will be setting 2011′s global environmental agenda, reporter Lucy Siegle taps a number of Yanks including New York mayor Michael Bloomberg and New Orleans rebuilding actor Brad Pitt. Levin took over the reins of the EMA five years ago and knows exactly who she wants to plop in the seats of those red carpet Priuses and Volts:

Levin has her sights trained on young Hollywood: A-listers under 35… EMA events now feature young starlets such as Rosario Dawson, Amy Smart and Olivia Wilde talking about sustainable solutions and EMA programs, including the 16 organic gardens it runs around Los Angeles. Levin’s plans are for more projects, more stars and more green chatter. “We never stop. While you sleep we’re greening the world!” she says.

Youth Inaugural Ball…Like a Prom With Booze…Really Pricey Booze

youthball.jpg

First off, the Youth Ball was at the Washington Hilton Hotel where Ronald Reagan was shot. Why did you need to know that? Because it’s weird and that’s why you read blogs at work.

There were two ballrooms. One room had Aretha Franklin, Rosario Dawson, Kanye West, Kid Rock, Fall Out Boy and the new president’s dance with the first lady.

Then there was another room if you couldn’t get into the other one. That one had food. We were in that room…never wanted to be in the sweaty no food room.

Anyway, the Youth Ball was a couple of corsages short of being a junior prom. There were even prom type photos that you could pose for (we looking forward to the email when they’re ready for viewing).

This gala was like if prom was only for nerds. Which is what you could say for all of DC. ‘Nerd only’ subway cars. ‘We don’t serve jocks’ restaurants. ‘Have to be a geek’ neighborhoods. We want to know why no one has asked us to leave yet.

(Geek) News You Don’t Want To Miss: Thursday Roundup

People: Rosario Dawson is a hot geek.

The Book Standard: Geeks are tastemakers according to a Hollywood insider. Oh wait … that insider is Marlon Wayans. Disregard that one. Oh wait, this story is from last year. Totally, and completely disregard this one. I guess we’re just high off of nerd fumes.

MTV: Polar Express wouldn’t have been any less freaky-looking had it featured a naked Angelina Jolie.
